Hi Catherine! It's Christel, Dougie's wife. We met at Flannagans on March 12th. You and Lester have been on my mind since then. I've just been wondering how you're doing. How is Lester doing? Has he made it out yet? I wanted to just encourage you and let you know that those of us from that weekend haven't forgotten about you and your family. Please keep us updated and let me know how things are.

Hi, Catherine, it's been awhile. My computer went down..wasn't a virus...can't figure it out..but it would not allow internet service for almost a month!! I would just get knocked off and since I do not have internet at work I was out of the loop for awhile. Now it is working just fine.....hmmm....
How are things on your end? I'm sorry to hear about your pet. How is he doing?
And, importantly, how is Lester doing? I've been eager to know of his status!
Take care and write when you can.

Hi Catherine! :) Just wondering if your son is still having trouble with his PFA run. Sounds like he's still struggling from what I've been able to gleen from your page. I'm really sorry about that if so. I know boot camp was the worst weeks of my life so I can really feel your pain. How is your health holding up? I'd love to hear from you - keep in touch.
Prayers & Hugs

Hi Catherine--I'm so sorry it's taken me awhile to get back. I hardly check my page anymore since Cody has been home. I'm also sorry to hear about your son, it's a rollercoaster ride that I was glad to get off of. So I know firsthand what you're going through and I know how hard it is to be so far away and not knowing everything that is going on or what the future holds. I do know that while in ship 06 they worked with Cody until it was determined it would take too long for his leg to heal there. It was an up and down process, and just when things would start to look better--another set back would happen. He was then moved to ship 17 which has been moved to another ship now and he was there for about 3 weeks before he was sent home. If you haven't heard from your son, there is a public affairs number you can call and they will have him call you back. If you do a search under groups and pull up the ship 17 group there is a number for the public affairs office for ship 6 medical.

The recruiter probably won't be much help at this point. Just tell him to be very careful about signing any kind of discharge papers--they really try to push a re-4 on these kids, which means they can never re-enlist with any branch of service. Cody hurt his leg there and they tried to stick him with that discharge. It was finally changed to a re-8 meaning he can go back in 12 months. So make sure they don't try and do that to him. If they do contact your congressman and they will give you a number for someone who overlooks that sort of thing. I hope everything works out for you and your son. Just hang in there and know that he will get home soon. Take care! Janet

Hi Catherine, I'm a former BC mentor Mom. I just left a reply to your question on the Q and A with a Recruiter. Sorry it took so long for someone to answer you, not sure where Brady and Hoppi have been, spring break perhaps? I wanted to point you in the direction of our fit Group, but it looks like you found it, although there are other discussions and at least one other FIT Group you may want to find. How is your son doing, has he been able to improve his time? They get so determined and it's really amazing the obstacles they can overcome, illness, injury etc. Have faith, it'll happen, it's just hard on everyone in the meantime. :( Best wishes to him for a bright Navy future. :)

p.s. FYI: If he shares your last name, you will want to amend your profile and remove your last name. OPSEC rules prohibit posting a Sailors' last name on site. We want both you and him to be protected!

Hi Catherine! I'm glad Lester has been improving on his running. Is he still in good spirits? He's doing a great job. Bootcamp is hard enough for two months, and he's still pushing through. Congrats on your next grandbaby! You have two grandsons already? How old are they? What are their names? Do you know if this one is a boy or a girl? I'm due in June too. And I have two at home. My oldest son is 5 and the baby is 13 months. We're finally having a girl! I am nervous about having the two of them so close in age. The middle one is still a baby! I'm sure you know a lot more about raising children than I do. Know that you, your family, and Lester are in my prayers.

too cool!!! my 80+ year old mother-in-law is living on the last 30 acres of what was originally about a very large homestead in east texas - of course it's been divided between "kids" over the years - i don't know the whole history but i do know she's on the piece where the original homestead stood, she grew up there and can remember back to her great-grandmother's history so i guess we've got a centennial farm too - i just never heard the term before - how cool that you know how the property came to your family - best wishes to your newest grandbaby - i know you're proud of all your brood :)
hugs, cindy

p.s.: sorry about the spelling ;P

dear catherine - the rdcs can be hard a** if they want - i'm not sure why we got to see steven, just glad we did - we used our income tax refund to get to chicago and would not have been able to make another trip - the key for your son is to keep trying and keep improving - the navy wants him to pass his pfa so they can put him to work - i can relate to the shin splints 'cause i'm not the athletic type myself although i am going to be starting an exercise routine soon due to high blood pressure - i always tell folks that i graduated high school so i didn't have to do p.e. anymore - lol - now i'm older and have to do p.e. again to keep my body going - ce la vie (french for that's life) - hang in there mom - it will happen and you won't believe the relief when it does - there is life after boot camp :) - love, hugs & prayers, cindy
