Congrats to Ryan, Travis made Petty Officer 3rd Class and hopes to earn his Dolphins by Christmas. He has been with the boat since May. We won't be seeing him for Christmas but I do know that he is going to be with one of his shipmate's families on…

Sandi, You made my day. You see I have a son named Travis and we are from Texas. And I agree he is the sweetest sailor. Was he moving around okay? You see he was in a car accident a 2 weeks ago. I thought that they were safely home for a few months…

We heard from Travis! He is well and working hard. It was good to know that he is not having any problems with the air on the boat. He says he has lots of sea stories to tell already. At home, we only have 13 school days to go. I will be off for the…

Well, the crew has been underway for a few days and we have not heard from our son, Travis, so we are thinking that everything must be okay. He had an allergic reaction which made him senitive to the atmosphere on the sub in Feb. But he was cleared…

About me:
I am a middle school math teacher, mother of four and married for 24 years. Oldest son is a senior at Texas A&M. My second child, Travis, is a E3 MM/weapons on the USS New Hampshire. Youngest two are very active teens involved in scouts and swim teams. I enjoy camping, fishing, reading, crossword and Sudoku puzzles and writing to my sailor. This summer is full of carting the kids to church camp, swim camps, and mission trips and swim meets. I may get a break in August for a few weeks before I head back to the classroom.

When I heard “Navy,” I:
Needed to learn more about it
From my experience with the Navy, the most important thing I learned was:
If this is where he can feel successful then leaving college may not have been the worst thing in the world.
Through this Navy experience, I now believe:
It was positive and maturing. Our relationship has grown stronger.

Cathy, welcome to the USS New Hampshire group. I spent a little while in Texas while my husband was working at the Houston Intercontinental airport in the mid-80s. We lived in Spring, just north of Harris County.

Hi, Cathy and welcome to "Sub Moms!" I know of one other NEW HAMPSHIRE mom here. Her name is Jeanne (click her name to meet her). I know Round Rock very well, as my family has owned property on Lake Travis since '64 (plus Daddy was a UT grad).

We're all here for info and support, so shout whenever you like! Hugs, ks.

Hi Neighbor!
My son graduated from Stony Point in 2002, so he's a little older. He actually graduated from University of Houston before enlisting. My daughter graduated from Stony Point in 2004. I bet one or both of them know your sons.

I do hope you get to have Travis home for Christmas. It's jsut not the same without the entire family together. I doubt Dylan will be home for Christmas but we're hoping he'll be home for Thanksgiving.

hi cathy,
thank you thank you thank you for your kind words. you sound very well rounded and together, im getting there. he went to college for 6 yrs in TN, has a broadcasting editing, etc,,degree. right now he also is staying out late, sleeping maybe most of the day he works at o'charleys as a server, hasnt worked out at all, very sensitive, caring man of god. hes very creative and i think more of a loner. i just think about the day i will get his clothes he wore to BC in the mail and how long i will cry becuz its xmas and for the 1st time in 25 yrs my son is not here and i am alone. brandon had tourattes and ADD in HS and took meds, to be totally honest i just prayed and prayed god will heal him and he would not have to take any meds, in HS he made D's and F'S, so after i prayed he got into the college he wanted to go to, never took another pill, and no longer has any signs of ADD. went to college and made A's amd B's amd got on the honor roll.
I just wish I could shake the sadness, it was dropped on me all of the sudden you know?
but please keep writing, i need the fellowship and support so badly and i dont even know the codes you guys use like NFM, just all the navy lingo i have no clue.
but god bless you i love you and hope to meet.
do you live in CA?

They have to earn liberty cards. They'll be issued a different color as the progress. I can't remember exactly how long before they are able to actually leave the base, but Allan's been able to go to Boston and nearby places, fishing and touring. I think that was after BESS though. I'll have to ask him when he calls tonight and then I'll let you know.
I LOVE Connecticut. It's just beautiful!

Hi Cathy! Boot Camp was real hard. I think it is for all of us moms. I had two gone at once. I don't think I ever cried more in my entire life than I did those two months. Once the boys are out of BC and off to their training they can have cell phones and laptops. THAT was the best! Once I was able to talk to them again in the evenings after school, phone, text, IM......life was SO much easier. Just being able to communicate with them again and hearing that they are ok will take such a load off your mind and heart.
My oldest is going to be an AZ (aviation management) on a carrier, he is stationed in Lemoore, CA right now which is not far at all. I've driven that highway many times on my way up to Yosemite so we were thrilled to have him at least on the west coast again (we live in San Diego). My middle son, the one that's coming home this weekend is a submariner. He will be starting his 'A' school next month. He's already finished BESS (basic enlisted submarine school) and two other courses for electronic tech and now starts A school. He will still be in CT until the fall, after that, who knows. I am hoping he is either stationed here (we have a sub port) or in Hawaii. I love Hawaii and for some reason Hawaii doesn't seem so far away.....at least we would share the same ocean!
I will keep your son in my prayers. PIR is WONDERFUL, EMOTIONAL and one of the proudest you will ever be of your child!! God bless them all!
