I hope we can meet too Cathy! That would be awesome! My boss is so used to me with these sailors by now. He doesn't even blink an eye when I ask for time off. Of course I don't take advantage of that either, but am so grateful that he is like that. It is a wonderful thing to see those ships come in! Brings goosebumps and tears every time with me and of course I had the incredible opportunity to be on a carrier to witness the emotions that go with those sailors when they do pull in! There are sooooo many words to describe that! We will just keep each other posted once they leave Virginia and see what happens once time gets closer! You are the first person here who has a son with the same rate and on the same ship as at least one of mine! I love it!!!!

Cathy, I am hoping to get down there to see the ship leave and then maybe fly out to see it come in! I just have to watch my timeline because I have a niece getting married June 5 and the boys are both in the wedding so they will be coming home then. If the ship gets into SD a month or 2 before that then I will probably make the trip. They do get time off for christmas and some for New Year's. Jake leave time is 12/27 to 1/5. I won't have either one home for Thanksgiving or for Christmas. Sad, but I have been soooo fortunate to have them both home the last 2 christmas holidays so I don't even want to complain. There are moms on here who have not had their sailors home for holidays in years!! I guess be grateful for what comes along when it does!

Cathy, Jake did meet Chris and said he sleeps in the same "cube" a few racks away from him! He said he is managing really well and said they have a good work center so his transition should be real easy. Jake says there are a lot of decent people in the work center which makes life so much easier! I am glad that they met!

A South Florida meet and greet would be great. Keep me informed if you hear of anything. I will also head to Va when my son leaves for his cruise on the CV.

Cathy, Jake went to JAX for C school also. There is no wait that I know of for C school. Jake started on time and actually finished ahead of time by a few days. I would not be concerned. If by some chance he misses the ship's departure they will fly him to the ship. They are not expected to leave Va until sometime after the first of the year. Early January is what they have said so far. I will keep you posted and Chris may too. Enjoy your time with him! Lucky you!

Cathy, Not sure what a "floater" is either. I can check with Jake. Since the ship will be underway very shortly after Chris gets there I am sure he will be doing much of his job. Please keep me posted and if I here any changing AS news on the CV I will let you know also. I am going to add you as a friend, just by chance we need to personal message something!

Cathy, Let me know when Chris is going to be headed to the CV when the time gets closer. I told my son about him and he said that they are expecting about 5-6 new AS sailors on their ship. I just wanted to give him a heads up and hopefully get to meet your son. I am almost positive they will meet as their division is very small and they all pretty much know each other. If Chris is home, enjoy your time with him and I will talk to you real soon!

I'm surprised that ifhe is graduating on the 25th that they aren't just sending him to Va..the ship isn't leaving until next February for San Diego. There was been rumors of Washington, but I don't think it's actually moving there...with all of the families, cars and households goods being shipped to San Diego on the military dime, I doubt they will move it again too soon. Perhaps he is catching it up in WA and moving down to San Diego. Either way there is a reason they are sending him to WA first...we are happy to have you in our group.
