Hi again...
Nate didn't graduate from a Nuke Program...not that I know of! He graduated from bootcamp in Great Lakes on Dec.7 of 2007. He actually enlisted on 9.11.07. As far as I know...he is not in a Nuke program - but that doesn't mean he's not. :o) He does all this 'Navy talk' with my husband...who was also in the Navy. I get to hear things like he is happy, healthy and wanting more cookies! hahaha!

Hi there! I really do love your photo and you are very welcome. When someone does a good job...they deserve recognition! :o)
As for the photo....go to the settings page and way at the bottom, where it asks if you want to use a photo, choose one and make sure you check the box that says 'repeat vertically'. I hope this helps you out! Your son is very handsome. My son Nate is also a Machinist Mate...he is on the USS Stennis and JUST TODAY I got to hear is wonderful voice in a 30 minute telephone call. I loved it!!!!! Take care and chat anytime!!

Thanks Cathy! and I thought all he was doing was playing beer pong!!!
I am so proud of him. He brushes everything off and acts disinterested but I know he had to work hard for this one. I asked him if his friend advanced also and he said he wasnt going to check cause he didnt try. Brannon said he wasnt trying and then thought "hey I know this stuff" He said they had just gotten off a night shift but I told him you always have to try! I have always told my kids to excel at anything, you have to give your best at everything. Guess he was really listening after all.
He told me tonight he was paying to have his new patches sewn on by a female sailor with cans of green beans. Thats what she wanted!! Worked for him too!
Thanks for the kind words. Cheryl

Hi Cathy,
Yes my son is still in ELT school in NY. Is that where Drake is? He is still waiting and just keeps me posted as I kept asking about Christmas! He told me the other day they will probably still be there through January so Christmas leave will be like school. Either the week of Christmas or the week of New Years. Brannon requested the week of Christmas as we are celebrating it in Disney World.

Hi Cathy

I know it is hard to learn what they are doing and keep track of it all. Yes from what I hear the Nimitz will deploy in July. They are doing a lot of maintenance now. Nick is disappointed because all his friends from A school, power school and prototype all went sub. He is a nub on the Nimitz. (non usable body). He says he is the nubliest nub. ;-) So far he is the newest guy. The nukes have a trailer set up on the flight deck where they are working on their qualifications. They have to take turns standing watch too.
From what I hear it is a good thing that Nick and Drake graduated power school when they did. Sounds like the problems continue there.
Nice to hear from you!

Hello Cathy,
This is Nick's Mom, we met on squidoo. Just wanted to let you know that a Nuke Chief commented on my squidoo page that nukes can not start on a sub and switch to a carrier. I think you mentioned that Drake might want to do that so I thought I'd pass along the info.
Nick is in San Diego waiting to deploy on the Nimitz. (July) The Nukes are all working on their qualifications while maintenance is getting done on the Nimitz.
Is Drake still in school?
Just thought I'd touch bases. Hope all is well.

Hello, My name is Cathy and I'm a proud Navy mom. My son is an only child, so of course I worship the ground that he walks on, but I try not to show it too much. I teach 3rd grade and feel honored to share in the lives of my students. I am constantly amazed by their beauty and individuality. What can I say, I love children. I also love Art of any kind, and am currently consumed with the art of photography.

Stage of (Sailor’s) Navy Career?

When I heard “Navy,” I:
Was concerned or afraid, Needed to learn more about it
From my experience with the Navy, the most important thing I learned was:
My son was mature enough to handle the intensity of the the Nuke program. Here he is at his Power School graduation:
I DID IT~Made it through 7 mos. of Hell! 03/08
Two thumbs up for making it through an intense 6 mos. in Power School!
At Last! Finished Prototype School, with another Personal Excellence Award! Now an official Machinist's Mate!

Through this Navy experience, I now believe:
Our relationship has grown stronger, This was a maturing experience, The Navy has a lot to offer
