Profile Information

About me:
Hello, My name is Cathy and I live in Northern San Diego County in California. We lived in Omaha, Nebraska for 12 years from 1993 to 2005. I have 3 children. Luke age 23 just left for boot camp (Ship 14, DIV 399) on Aug 26th, Casey age 22 is working as a hostess at Mimi's Cafe. She's looking for an apartment with some friends. And then Courtney who's 17 is living in Omaha, Nebraska with her dad. She's just starting her senior year of High School. I've been married to Chris my wonderful husband of 10 years this December. I think our only vacation this year will be to go to Luke's graduation in October. We are so very proud of Luke for making it into the Navy taking this big step into manhood. We are praying he does really well in boot camp and will have the opportunity to travel and see the world while he's serving his country. I spend my spare time reading (nutrition, politics, faith enhancing books), I go to a wonderful church nearby and we are involved in serving in the nursery twice a month. I love to read, sew, play the piano, knit and garden. I've really enjoyed this forum to get to know other women who are going through the same things I am and who are willing to help us all make it through this time in in our lives more informed then perhaps they were when they went through it all. I still can't believe I have a son in the Navy. I love telling everyone I meet. It feels so good to know my son is doing something so selfless and productive. God is so faithful.
I am here to support or represent my:

When I heard “Navy,” I:
Was proud
From my experience with the Navy, the most important thing I learned was:
That the Navy can be a very good thing and a wonderful learning and growing experience. Not just for my son, Luke, but for me as a parent going through all the emotions of this life changing time in his life.
Through this Navy experience, I now believe:
This was the best decision he/she could have made

I AM THE MOTHER OF U.S. NAVY SAILOR!!

Well it's finally confirmed as of Friday, October 17th. I got a call from Luke telling me he passed Battlestations with flying colors. He made it sound like it was so easy. He seems to really have enjoyed this whole process. I'm so darn proud of that guy. I thank God all the time for bringing him to this idea of joining the Navy. This has been so good for him. It seems to just blend with his personality perfectly. I hope that will always be the case as he makes his way through A school and then… Continue

BOOT CAMP IS ALMOST OVER

Well, Luke is into week 6 of boot camp and so far all reports have been positive. So looks good for graduating on the 24th as scheduled. He's excited about getting ribbons for his uniform and getting to shoot. He didn't do as well as he had wanted to but still did quite well. I haven't heard of him getting into trouble yet. Hopefully the same will be true when he's in A school which also takes place in Great Lakes. We are really looking forward to going out there for his PIR. I plan on taking a… Continue

One week to go till BC

My son, Luke, is leaving for boot camp in one week. Well, actually a week from tomorrow but I will see him for the last time next Monday. I've very excited for him and his new adventure. I'm just nervous he won't do well. His biological father didn't make it through Air Force boot camp 26 years ago. I think that kinda haunts him as well as, in a way, spurrs him on to do better. He can't wait for the day when he can show up on his "dad's" doorstep and show him what he's accomplished. Luke hasn't… Continue

Hi Cathy,
Thats wonderful that Luke is doing so well ---really thats all we want for them!!! Bryan had a rough month but has come thru the other end and now is in tech-no school at nite 5-12. He too is saying enough with the cold and I think on the whole the country has had a harder winter than ever. Even here we have put the heat on. Its been in the 30's which is chilly for us. Bryan has met someone in michigan and seems happier than ever. I just want him to be happy and have a plan and we are set right? Bryan will be staying in Connecticutt for at least another year to finish all his schooling. We are going to visit in April. My husband drove his car there one weekend and thats been great for Bryan and has been driving for the first time in snow. Alittle freedom is great. So what is Luke going to be again? Bryan will be a sonar submariner hopefully when all the schooling is done and completed.
Well thanks for chattting and we shall chat more. I just got my own facebook and am on that too. Its so great I love it!!!

Hey Cathy just a quick note to see how you all are doing? Bryan is doing better than I ever thought. He graduates from BESS school on the 17th and then will get all his things in order then. He is so busy going to school and working and then studying all nite. His group did a training called wet train (not sure) and they didnt pass so they need to do that again. Its when a pipe breaks on a sub and they have to fix it underwater while being sprayed with freezing cold water. My son says its cold but he doesnt complain too much---yesterday he bought himself a nice coat and hat. Its suppose to snow which I think he will enjoy because he has only seen it once in our vacations. He wants to take his car back so he is flying in and then my husband and he are driving it up there!!!! He sounds better and better when we talk on the phone. Thanksgiving was hard on me without him here and when we had chatted on the phone he sounded a bit stressed with mustering and watchduty. They dont get alot of down time. He finally has figured out the transportation cuz he spends alot going to the mall. Now he has to figure out the shuttle to the airport. He comes home after xmas but will be here for newyears eve. We ordered him a big banner so cant wait til we get that. I designed a tree with Navy ornaments and Gator ornaments, since my younger is at University of Florida. The top of the tree has both baseball caps!!!! Now I have to start Bryans scrapbook-need to do that next!!!! Well I hope you are well and Luke -I misss chatting on the pir boot camp one!!! Hey and have a great holiday and enjoy Luke when he comes home!!!!

Hi Cathy,

Nice hearing from you! It was a pleasure to meet you too. :) I am glad the madnet has come in handy too. Your son sounds like he and Kyle are living parallel lives. He is in GL, waiting A School and taking night classes now that he says are boring. He'll be flying home on Dec. 19th too!!! I can't wait to see him, but I am afraid I will not be able to complete with his friends and he'll stay busy with them. I son't think Kyle knows yet when A School starts, but I do know he is anxious to get this ball rolling. Has Luke said much abou the weather? Kyle complains all the time about the cold. I don't know how he'll fair when "winter" truly sets in. :) But I guess those Pea coats are very warm.
Hope you had a nice Thanksgiving. Take care and check in again sometime. :) Beth

We have lived here for 6 years, but we live in town. We were in Des Moines for 2 before that, but are originally from Illinois. We have LOTS of family in Illinois so Andrew got to be with them for Thanksgiving.

Hey, Andrew will be home on Friday and then to Norfolk on the 20th. We won't have him for the holidays, but it will be nice to see him now. The night classes that Luke is taking are his seamanship classes. Andrew took them at night while he was waiting for BM classes to start. He started his BM classes on 10/27 and graduated on 11/25. It was just hubby, daughter and me for thanksgiving, but Andrew was with my hubby's family in Illinois (about 1 hour from the base). Ramona

Hey, Cathy. Andrew PIR'd on 9/5 and went to GL. He was on hold until October 27th until his BM classes started. The only good thing was that he got to take his seamanship classes at night while he waited. He finishes this week and then goes to Norfolk, VA.
