Hi, I'm new to this group. My son just landed in Guam last week and already has to look for a place to live (no room on base?) and needs to find a car. Is this the norm?

It's these stories that I hear that really frustrate me about the military. I have a friend who's son has finished A school and is leaving for his job in VA next week and he couldn't get anyone to return his calls about where he is supposed to go once he gets there! I just think that is unacceptable. Many of these kids have never been away from home, flown on a plan or navigate themselves around a strange city. How is your son doing now?

Did you go to graduation? I'm finding there's a lot about the military that I don't understand. She was originally supposed to go to San Antonio and start A school the Monday after graduation which would have put her home for Christmas for 2 weeks. I'm not sure when that changed but it did. While waiting for classes to start they do a lot of cleaning. My daughter has had PT on a regular basis which she was happy about. She was also made a duty driver, picking up Sailors from the airport which got her off base for a while. She may have picked up your son.

Hi Cathy, My daughter has been in VA since the Wednesday after PIR which was Oct. 17. She was put on hold for 6 weeks for her A school but then they moved it up 2 weeks. She starts November 24th. I'm still not sure if she will be home for Christmas. She's frustrated but trying to make the best of it and trying to do some fun things when she has liberty. Did your son just graduate last Friday? When is his A school supposed to start?

Cathy, I still get emotional thinking about each of my sons' PIR. I felt my chest would burst I was holding my breath I was so impressed with the event. I could not imagine missing it. Is your son off to A School now? Good luck to you and him.
