About me:
I am a ER Nurse working in the CBD of New Orleans. I have 2 sons, the eldest, Mark, lives in Cincinnati Ohio. He moved there after Katrina wiped our lives away. The youngest ,Travis,decided to join the Navy after my father passed away last May. My father retired Navy as a HTC...yes I am a Navy BRAT ! My memories and my fathers stories to Travis must have impacted Trav more than I could ever have imagined. He wrote on his MySpace page that he had joined the Navy out of respect for his "G-Paw" to HONOR him. I could only wish that my Dad could see him Graduate,,,Not one of my sisters or brothers, or any of my nephews or neices has joined any branch of the military...till now. My "baby-man" amazed me...because of his decision, I now have two nephews who want to follow and join this new club of "Go navy for G-paw". I am now an empty nester, my house is cleaner and quieter these past weeks....plus the frig stays fuller longer! Image that! We give them wings....but Jesus knows it's hard to let them Fly! I'm new at this and still adjusting....CJ

Was concerned or afraid, Was proud, Encouraged him/her
From my experience with the Navy, the most important thing I learned was:
Very afraid...we are a Nation at war....4000 dead is 4000 mothers without their sons. Proud because it was a choice he made to honor his Grandfather....My father!....Yes I encouraged him...I have always encouraged him in any endeavor that was positive. Being raised Navy, by a father that had saltwater for blood....How could I not support this young MANS decision!

Hi Cheryl, It was good to hear from you. I do not know anyone from the Ross. It looks like Travis & Chad are the same schedule. Chad got to Damneck in Dec but did not start C School unitl Feb 17th. He is to finish around the first of June & report to the USS Ross the middle to June. He is a GM (gunners mate) & is school for VLS (vertical launch system). What is Travis doing? Chad has also been in also a year. Talk to you again soon. Sandra

Hi Cheryl, I understand that your son is on or will be on the USS Ross. My son, Chad is in Dam Neck, VA waiting to start C school but will be station on the USS Ross sometime in June. He is a GM & is going to school on VLS (vertical launch system) . I have been trying to find other Moms from the USS Ross. I hope to hear from you some.

Cheryl, has your son finished up A school yet? Our FC son got his orders today for C school and will be heading to Dahlgren in January. Hope Travis is doing well, let me know where he is at.

Good to hear from you Cheryl, your son PIRed a week before ours but they could be in the same graduation class. I knew this program was long but geez another four months till graduation! Have you seen your son since PIR? We have not but are delighted that he calls every few days. He is on the Cole, do you know what building your son is on? Are you giving any thought to attending their graduation? I don't feel like we will as I'm expecting they will be getting leave at that time.

Cheryl, welcome to the AE/CF group! Is Travis in bc or in A school now? Will he be an FC? Noticed your post on the job description. Our son is in A school for FC, it's a long process. He started school back in April and should be done mid Nov. but then it is off to C school. If you have any questions that we can help - just ask.

Wish I lived there...that's where Trav is...if he had wanted to be a seabee, or airman I would have him here near Mississippi..but we give then wings, they fly in their own direction ....have a good one friend...Cheryl
