Your son wants to buy a house right? AHRN is for renting and relocation office which is also part of Forestcity(Privatized housing company) can help him with renting but not really with buying.
All they do is here are some flyers people brought in…
Angie,
Well, I got Chris signed in to the site to look at houses for sale in the GL area and he completed the signin but wants me to look at a house he likes and I can no longer find the site!
Do you know where it is? i thought it was on the main GL…
The ten days is extra time and is not charged as leave. This is not automatic, he needs to request the time off. This link explains the procedure, he should ask his command to walk him through the process.

Not sure. He just took 14 days leave to come home for some sorely needed R&R from GTMO. He will have another 14 I think after May 31, then on to the command. He told me to find some places for him to look at when he gets there.
I'm a mom of 5, all grown -- well, almost! My youngest is a HS senior this year so...
My oldest son is in the Navy, currently in GTMO as a guard. I'm also a Navy man's daughter, since my father served in the Korean War.

When I heard “Navy,” I:
Was proud and encouraged it
From my experience with the Navy, the most important thing I learned was:
He now belongs to something bigger than me and our family. He is a man determined to serve and make us, and his granddad, proud.
Through this Navy experience, I now believe:
It was positive and maturing. Our relationship has grown stronger.
What did your son teach up at Great Lakes? Mine was there last year from April to Dec 1 - he's an FC now in C school in San Diego. You have a very handsome family.
I didn't make the get together either, crazy busy weekend here also (prom for my middle daughter & my sailor flew in Saturday and left Sunday). Glad to hear that Chris will be home in 33 days. You must be getting excited!!! Enjoy his visit. Take Care!
Hello, I saw on the Navy4moms website a comment posting stating you were from Cincinnati - Delhi/Bridgetown area. I am also from Bridgetown (I have 5 children and all have gone through Oak Hills HS) and I am new to this whole Navy experience as well as this website. My son just went to boot camp on March 11 with a Navy Seal contract. His graduation date is May 8. I need to make hotel reservations now and not sure which hotel would be best to stay at. Also, I would love to get more information regarding boot camp, graduation, leave after boot camp?, what to expect from Seals, or just about anything I could learn in regards to "NAVY". Any help/info you could offer me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Robin
Hi. I live here in Great lakes area. I believe your son is e-6 same as my husband so I can help you better with what kind of house in what area he'll be able to afford to buy.
About near the water....does he mean by lake michigan? I have to say that will be close to impossible. Too expensive if it's south from the base and not very good neighborhood if it's north of the base. There are many small lakes in this area and it is possible to live on or by the lake if he look around Grayslake, Round lake, Mundelein.....etc.
Areas I think he can afford and good places to live are....Gurnee, Grayslake, Round lake, Mundelein, Vernon Hills and maybe Libertyville.
Great but the areas most likely he can't afford are Lake Bluff, Lake Forest, Highland park, Deerfield and Lincolnshire.
Areas I do not recommend are.....North Chicago, Waukegan, Zion, Beach Park and Wadsworth.
Maby people do buy houses in WI but it depends on what your son will be doing at Great Lakes (work wise). If he is going to be a RDC, I do not recommend him living anywhere more than 20 mins away from the base.
I grew up in the city, and love the country. I would go crazy if I had to move back. The horses are my therapy. This is my eutopia.
I'm glad that your son will be so close to home. Kyle is just getting started. He went to boot camp on April 23, his 22 birthday. It was a very rough year and we are hoping for a much better year this year. We lost a nephew at the age of 25 on Memorial Day weekend, then in November I lost my first horse very suddenly at the age of 22. So between Kyle leaving and loosing my nephew, and horse, it has been tough on mom, but great boost to Kyle.
He loves the Navy and wants to stay in for a career. His uncle retired in October 2007, then Kyle joined April 2008. We said it was the changing of the guard.
Well any time you want to come out the country, come on out for a visit. We have plenty of room and we can always sit on the deck and drink tea while watching the animals play in the fields.
No, I don't know anyone in that area at all. Sorry I can't be of help. Alex was the same way in high school. He barely slid by. He just wasn't interested. Now that he's in A school and he's learning about something HE wants, he's doing much better. Unfortunately, I have another one who's a sophomore at OHHS, who's is following in his brother's footsteps.......grade wise. They just don't seem to get it until they are in their senior year and see their friends making plans to go to college and there they are......going nowhere. I can't pound it into his head.....of course I couldn't with Alex either. He realized it senior year! These kids!!!! Don't ya wish they would listen to their Moms??? Of course, we listened to our moms all the time didn't we? LOL
Hi there Chris' Mom .....LOL.....I don't see your first name listed anywhere! My son, Alex, graduated in 2008 from OHHS and left in September for boot camp. Sounds like you are a veteran Navy Mom since your son has been in 9 years!!! I live in Bridgetown and I drive an Oak Hills school bus, and my routes are mostly over in Delhi area. What a coincidence huh? I love this website. It helped me so much when Alex was in boot camp and I only got one letter a week. Its better now since we can text, e-mail or call each other......but I still miss him alot!!! I'm sure you know the feeling.
We are so glad that you are here! This is a great place to meet others that know exactly how you feel!
We have something for everyone here groups from boot camp moms to overseas moms and moms that like to scrap book. We have meet and greets to events that the moms set up to meet each other and have dinner or an outing. There are groups to help you with each and every step of this wonderful adventure that our children have chosen called the US Navy.
Please tell us about your sailor and what they have chosen to do in the navy and ohh yeah we LOVE pictures of everyone !!
Please let me know if you have any questions I can help you with.
