Dave, USS Decatur, goes back to Midand, TX to visit his friends, and Clay, Key West Naval Air Station, talks about going to the University of Texas in Austin, TX when he gets out.

I was born in Austin and all of my young adults were born in Midland. With me having moved away, they have to chart their own course of employment opportunities and housing arrangements.

I stayed at the Stead Ranch in 1960 at Estes Park. That is when I fell in love with the mountains. The Texas hill country (Austin) was the closest to mountains before that trip--still love the hill country!!

Did I tell you that my cat is named Chief? I had to do something to keep Chief Illiniwek's name known!! I have a degree in Home EC. What is your degree in?

Chris--I spent my childhood in Houston Texas and it was wonderful-250,000 people. I moved to the Chicago area and at first I didn't like it. Working in the Loop changed my mind--I love Chicago and if I had to move to a BIG city, I would move to Chicago in a heartbeat. I lived in Midland, Texas for almost 30 years and it went from 56,000 to 95,000. For a town that small, it has lousey public transportation--couldn't carry sacks of groceries on the buses. Glenwood Springs is 10,000 and it's public bus system rivals Chicago--free buses in town for shopping, skis, bikes, etc and $12-$15 round trip to Aspen, 40 miles away. I live in the best of 2 lifestyles. Karen
PS My favorite building is the John Hancock, although I worked at one time in the Sears Tower.

Chris, I lived in Park Forest from 1962 until 1976. I went to Rich East and then U of I in C-U. I had the wonderful experience of working at the Fields State Street Store after graduating. Our family is diehard CUBS & BEARS fans. Have you always lived in Aurora?

When I heard “Navy,” I:
Needed to learn more about it
From my experience with the Navy, the most important thing I learned was:
Very happy with the respect and opportunities there are for women going into the Navy. I have always had respect and admiration for the people that have joined to serve our country. Honestly, I was concered for my daughter when she told me she wanted to join. I had no idea how women fit in. Now I have a better idea.
Through this Navy experience, I now believe:
It was positive and maturing. Our relationship has grown stronger.
