Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Hi Christy, Yes, the box the recruits pack up the night they arrive and everything is stuffed in there, taped up and shipped out. Then once they are done with their preliminary processing days and are all set to go with the TG (Training Group) and Div - your son will fill in his address on the form letter, and address it and mail it to you. I believe it should also contain information for filing out the paperwork for the tickets that are now being issued to attend PIR.

If you post your BC questions on the BC for Moms group, you will have more help during this process, and when you do have a PIR date, you will be able to join that group when they set one up.

There is a lot to navigate on this site. After your son has been at BC for about 5 - 6 weeks, they will actually assign him his nuke rating or job that he will be training for - either MM, EM, or ET. Once you know what his rating is, be sure to share with others on our group, so you can join up with veteran moms in those ratings. In the meantime read lots on both BC for Mom's site and Nuke Moms group.

I must have looked at your profile wrong yesterday, my apologies. I see now you were in DEP - Leavin for BC/ Nov - Have you received your box with his clothes and cell phone? Once that arrives, you should receive the form letter about a week later or so, and that will have his graduation date from BC and his address where you may start sending him letters. If I was to make a rough estimate, I would say his PIR is going to be Jan 19, but it could be the 12th depending on whether he actually processed in with a training group (TG) last week.

Since you had posted on the Nuke Moms group, I was confused as to which graduation you were talking about and you also said your sailor - we refer to them as recruits or SR (seaman recruits) until after Battle Stations, when they get their Sailor hats. - Just a little N4M jargon FYI.

I posted a reply on Nuke Moms group to your graduation question. You are signed out so I didn't know if you would see it.

Be sure to make at least change 3.

Be sure to check out the discussion, Things to Do in the Last Month before Your Future Sailor Leaves for the RTC.

Your future Sailor may want to join http://www.navydep.com to learn the ins and outs from the DEP point of view.

I see you have joined NUKE moms; you may also want to check out Nuke School Charleston and Nuke A School FAQ.

The Rating Information Card for NF can be found at https://www.cool.navy.mil/usn/enlisted/rating_info_cards/nukepower.pdf. (If you get the security warning, it is safe to go there.)

Your Sailor will most likely fly out to "A" School the day after PIR. See PIR Day and Liberty during PIR Weekend to help you know how to plan your weekend.

Your Sailor may have Prototype in Ballston Spa, NY; if so, join Moms/Dads/Families with Nukes in Ballston Spa, NY at that time. Some stay in Charleston.

Welcome to Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones). I look forward to sharing this journey with you. Be sure to check out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) for information on what to expect and to help you prepare for PIR. Start with OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes to Your Profile) and Arrival and What Happens at the RTC and read 1 or 2 pages a day and then go back to them as you need the info.

Take care and blessings to you and yours.

Make at least change 3 at the bottom of OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes to Your Profile) (clickable link).

There may be other changes you need to make as well, so read and consider each of the changes.

Another change that I recommend that is mentioned in change 1 is to change the ZIP Code to one that is not easily associated with you or your future Sailor.
