Thank you for sharing that with us. My son's PIR is 9/18. I am having a hard time sorting out my feelings. I feel much better since receiveing letter and a phone call. I am concerned about the graduation day. I don't know why, I am the one that over…

When he signs up he has to request that the Navy pay his current student loans. They can do that but he has to request it prior to signing his contract. My son's recruiter decided that it was too much paperwork, so he has to pay back his own student…

Got another letter. Said they were supposed to get phone calls on the 8th but didn't, now it will be the 17th. Tomorrow is their final inspection and the gas chamber. Saturday is Cap't Cup, Monday final PFA, Tuesday their 3rd test, and Wednsday Battlestations. They have to pass it all now and PIR Firday!!! Look forward to meeting everyone next week.

That is the only call I recieved also. Eaudra said (in a letter to her grandpa) that they are what is called a push division. They started a week to week and a half behind all the other divisions with the same PIR. That means they have less time to accomplish everything. I think boys naturally don't say as much, especially if it will make their mom's worry.

Just got a letter from Eaudra. She said she knew Cole. They had gone to Great Lakes together. Had all good things to say about him. Sounds like the beginning of this past week were kind of rough. Even had the possibilty of whole div. being delayed 2 wks for PIR, but things got better and all is as scheduled. She said the are to do Battlestations Sept 16. Can't wait for that phone call on the 17th. She also said that it sounded like they would get to make another call this week.

I actuall y live about 6 miles out of Gillespie in a small town (pop. 150) called Dorchester. Our mail just comes through the Gillespie post office. If you happened to be watching the news this past school year about the school that collapsed from mine subsidence, this is the one. We lucked out on the storm. Did have a little pea sized hail but didn't last over a few minutes.

Hi my name is Annette and I actually live in Dorchester (pop 150) so we have to use the Gillespie post office. I am about an hour south of Springfield. I know what you mean about the phone call. I forgot everything I wanted to ask her and everything she said. Lukily I got a second letter today that pretty much said the same as her phone call, but wiuthout the crying it was easier to understand. She is doing well though and that is the important thing. I am not clingy either. This has been hard I think mainly because of how fast it happened. She has been on her own now for almost 2 years so I had already gone through not having her right here. She lived about 30 min. from me. The last week of June she called me and asked how I felt about her joining the guard. Talk about shock, she had never mentioned anything before. I recommended that she talk to my nephew that was in the guard and also to check the other branches of service out before making any decisions. She called a week later and said she had signed with the Navy. She was to leave for bc in Sept. She takes her test and is sworn in the next week and calls to say that because of her mos she would be leaving for bc on July 27. We had 1 1/2 week to move her out of her apt. and get used to the idea she was going. Also didn't give her much time to get in shape and that worries her for passing pt.

You should at least be receiving your "sailor in a box" soon. If the recruit could not get through on the phone upon arrival, it could still be a while before you hear from them. No news is good news in this situation.

Last year they got about three fill in the blank areas to put a note inside the box. However, do call the recruiter--they will have an address to start mailing your accumulated letters. It may change slightly when you hear from your recruit. Please know that your letters do not reach them in the order you write them. Also, they only get Sundays to write, and if it happens that they have duty or have to iron their uniform instead, that is what they do.

If your recruit has a sense of humor, send me a private message and I will forward our sailor's first letter home to you (I typed it so I could forward it to the family.) But, remember, mine had a sense of humor.

Keep a notepad and pen handy with you in case you do get a call so you can make notes. I was so excited to hear his voice I forgot what he said except for what I wrote down.

Navy Mom Patience is the word.

From my experience with the Navy, the most important thing I learned was:
Go talk to the recruiter. It is okay to be a mom, my son is trying to be a man but I can still be the mom. Go talk to them, ask questions!
