We are going to be packing up lots of boxes for our Colorado Sailors and for Molly's Adopt-A-Sailors. Start writing lots of Christmas cards now so we can send 100's with our boxes. Think about those small essentials that make life better and start...

I've already started gathering "stuff" for our November 7th Party. AND I found about 7 boxes of Christmas cards that I can use to to send to our Sailors. I think that I've enlisted the help of a Coast Guard Mom to help write letters. She was wanti...

Profile Information

About me:
Proud Momma of 2 sons, one just graduated from A School. After Chris left for Boot Camp, a year ago, I cried for days. I remembered all the times that he did something big in his life...like go to kindergarden etc. I couldn't stop thinking about him and all the new things that he would experience on his own. What a proud moment in our lives!
I am here to support or represent my:
Chris
Stage of (Sailor’s) Navy Career?
Enlisted
When I heard “Navy,” I:
Was proud, Was relieved, Encouraged him/her
From my experience with the Navy, the most important thing I learned was:
Be patient. Your son/daughter will call when they can and no news is good news. They aren't hurt if you haven't heard from them.
Through this Navy experience, I now believe:
This was a maturing experience, This was the best decision he/she could have made

Talking to Chris

While Chris was in Boot Camp things were very rough not talking to him. I love life after Boot Camp! (as someone else on the site said) I have talked to him via IM and have a temp address for him until he is actually is in A school. The first thing he wanted from home was his iPod. Go figure! So, off to the Post Office I go. First trip of many to come.

I want to close with this thought...when I close my eyes the first site I see of my son is of him in his uniform with his arm reaching out to hug me. What a memory to go to sleep on! :D

Wondering

I wonder what will become of this career in the Navy.Chris is a smart cookie and I hope he stays in until retirement. I think he could easily do 20 years plus and come out on top. He's good at discipline and being a leader. I can see him taking this all the way.

I miss my son terribly. I do get to talk to him every weekend for now, but I know it won't always be that way. So, I'm soaking it up now. Hearing how well he's doing in school and keeping me posted on his progess with the Navy has made… Continue

Missing Chris

I have missed Chris' calls three weeks in a row. So, it's been a month since I last spoke to him. I get little bits and pieces of updates from Corey, his brother, and his fiance', Kelsey, that he's doing okay. I miss him terribly and I hope he calls today.

"A" school has been hard and I hear that he is moving right a log with his class. I also hear that graduation from A school is sometime Sept.-Oct. time frame. I can't wait to see him! I miss him SO much that it physically hurts sometimes. My… Continue

Chis is healing

It seems that this week of worry is almost over. Chris told us today that another sailor had the same infection and that's where he contracted MRSA, a type of Staph infection. He went back to Dr. today and they released him to clean and wrap his own wound. The hole in his thumb from where they drained and dug out the infection is starting to close. Chris was rather breif on whether or not the bad part was over. I think that he's withholding more info as not to worry me any further. With that sai… Continue

Home for the Holidays

Chris is fortunate enough to be home for Christmas and New Years. Although, I'm finding it harder to let him go since now he has a life other than with family. All I ask is that he be home for dinner most nights and that seems to have worked thus far. I was able to go down to the gate to greet him back home and I hope to return to the gate for his farewell. Chris keeps reminding that he may not be home next year for the Holidays. (Oh, my thoughts are everywhere, I'm sorry about that.) I do, of c… Continue

WOW! That MRSA can be a really dangerous thing! Good to hear they caught it early and have it under control. I will keep Chris in my prayers!

Hi Crystal, During boot camp at GL my son Trevor had an infected cyst and had to have surgery on it. The experience made boot camp all that much more difficult for him. That was over 2 years ago, no Navy Moms then, and I barely heard about it until it was over. He's just had a recurrence of that again in San Diego (thank goodness they are not deployed now) and back in surgery and hospital. My experience is that the Navy takes good care of their own. If he hasn't already, have him sign a release so you can talk with the doctors if you need to...once they are 18 and adults privacy rules forbit them giving information out to moms...a rude awakening when we are just trying to let go of our children and being so used to knowing what is going on with them. I hope Chris is doing well. Judy in Glenwood Springs

Hi Crystal, This is really going to sound off the wall, but I have one son in the Navy stationed in California and one son who is currently living in Golden, and working 3 part time jobs in Boulder. He is a recent graduate with a degree in Recreation and is having a hard time finding a full time job in Colorado. He has always wanted to live there and did his last internship there and would love to stay. Hey, I am trying all angles to see if anyone might know of someone hiring around there. YMCA/Parks and Rec/ anything full time.
I just thought I would ask, because us Navy moms stick together and you just never know who might know someone who knows someone. Thanks, Jody
