About me:
Hi everyone....and welcome to my page :) My name is Cheri, and i am a proud single mom of 2 kids. Damion...who is 19 and just entered boot camp on 11-4-08. Victoria is 12 and wants to be a Vet Dr. Both of them are my world! I am a Detention Officer for Elko County Juvenile Probation, and am eager to meet other parents who are on this journey as well. If you live in or near Elko, NV. I have created a group just for us :) "Elko Nevada Moms" but Fathers and any others are more them welcome as well!!
I am here to support or represent my:
DAMION ( in the Navy ) and VICTORIA
Stage of (Sailor’s) Navy Career?
Enlisted
When I heard “Navy,” I:
Was concerned or afraid, Needed to learn more about it, Said “No way!”
From my experience with the Navy, the most important thing I learned was:
That you have to trust in EVERYTHING that you have taugt them, they are no longer needing you to take care of everything for them....and that has been the hardest for me to adjust to! Because YOUR always going to want to make everything ok for them.

Through this Navy experience, I now believe:
Our relationship has grown stronger, This was the best decision he/she could have made

Hi Cheri,
I trust you made it back home okay considering you had to leave Damion in GL. It was a pleasure meeting you and your family. I think we have talked to Aaron everyday. It is nice to be able to do that again. Have you been able to talk to Damion much? He looked so good when we met him. You should be very proud of your son and I believe that you are. I see that you have changed your countdown clock. I'm not even going there yet since Aaron will be at sub school for at least 8 months. He got settled in at Groton and seems to like it there so far. He says that it is like being at college and it is so much better than basic. Stay in touch and let me know how ya'll are doing.

We made it to GL by 5:00 pm yesterday. The weather was awesome the whole way. Sunny, clear blue skies and the only rain was in Texas about 100 miles from home. It is chilly here in GL. Snow piles on the sides of the road. Daytime temps are in the 20's this week. Snow showers off and on through the week. Friday may see some light snow, high in the low 20's and low about 6. It is hard being so close to the boys but not being able to seem them yet. We might as well be a million miles away. It looks like you should be able to fly in without any problems. Call us when you can and if you need some help with anything. Maybe we can meet up with you and your girls and spend new years eve together. I hope you have a great trip and that all goes well with your flights.

We are in Illinois!!! Only 407 miles to go!!!! Yeah-can't wait to be there. After the emotional rollercaoster rides of the first three of my children joining the military, now my baby girl is considering joining the navy also. My kids just love to make me cry.

Hello Cheri,
Well we are on the road to Great Lakes, we left San Antonio this morning and made it to Osceola, Arkansas. It has been a smooth trip so far and all is well. Feel free to call us any time. We are planning on leaving around 8 am and arriving to Waukegan around 5 pm tomorrow. We so excited about seeing the guys and meeting you in person. We did hear from Aaron again on Saturday and he actually wanted to go spend time with the guys so the calls weren't that long. Have a safe trip and we will see you later.

Hello Cheri,
Merry Christmas from Karen and Orlando! We spoke to Aaron twice today. He said they were having a great day. It's hard to believe they are having a great time on Christmas without us but I guess that's part of growing up. He said there was a lot of food and fun, even presents. You can call me at (210)573-8430, that's my cell. Also, we will be driving up there and we have room for you and yourdaughter. So call me so we can work out the details. Remember we're all in this together. I am so glad the guys had a good day and could relax knowing that they finished and just have the PIR to look forward too.

I want to give you my phone number so you can get ahold of me whenever. We are leaving San Antonio on sunday. We wanted to give ourselves plenty of traveling time. We may be sight-seeing around Chigago for a couple of days. I haven't been there in almost 40 years. My oldest daughter is flying into Milwaukee on the 1st and we will go pick her up there. We are planning on going to the Meet and Greet that night. So let me know if you want the phone number. Have a wonderful Christmas Eve and Day. I'm am so proud of our boys. The phone call today was all I needed for Christmas. Of course my baby girl (the 17 year old) is being spoiled rotten since she is the only one home now, but she would much rather have her brothers home with her than most of the gifts she will receive. I hope by now you have heard from Damion. Merry Christmas

Aaron told me the other day that were to go at 8:30 in the evening and finish about 8:30 in the morning. So at this time they should be two hours into it. We went to a basketball game at our high school earlier this evening. I teach at this school and it is were my kids have and still attend. While talking to some former students of mine and friends of Aaron's we were telling them how he was doing and one of the boys told us he was home on leave from A school there in GL. He said we will get that phone call after battle stations. We also saw a young man that was with the opponent school in a uniform. He too was home for the holidays and had just finished his A school at GL. It was a good thing to see. I'm not sure how much sleep I will get tonight. It looks like you are on hour ahead of me and GL time wise. So if Aaron was right about the time then maybe sometime after 9:30 in the morning you will get that call. I'm afraid I'll be crying my eyes out as soon as I see the number on the caller ID and won't be able to say anthing to him. I have been reading comments posted by "new" (like we are really old pros at this) moms and can hardly believe it was 7 weeks ago almost to the minute that he called to say he was there. I remember those anxious moments in the first couple of weeks and now it is almost over. I know the boys may not have presents under a tree this year but they are getting a gift beyond measure-they have stayed the course and they completed it. Christmas day can truly be a day to relax and enjoy the feeling of success at an awesome accomplishment. Hope you have a great night tonight and a wonderful Christmas Eve. We'll be writing in a few hours to say congratulations they did it.

I look forward to meeting you and your children. Are you as excited as I am waiting for wednesday morning to get here? I hope to get that phone call. What a Christmas gift, right? Let me know if you here from Damion. I'm not sure I'll be able to sleep much tomorrow night. I'm excited for the boys. It seems like a lifetime has passed in the last seven weeks. I miss my son so much and I can't wait to see him. I know I have no choice but to wait. Still, I can't wait. I'll be praying for the boys as they go through the night.

Hi Cheri, It's good to hear from you. It sounds as though you are surviving this time too. I can't say that it has been easy but I remind myself of how proud I am of what Aaron is accomplishing and the emotions seem to fall into place. Like you, we are not positive where he will go next. Before he left for basic he thought that his next place was sub school in Connecticut but I suppose that we will find out for sure later this week. Aaron is our younger son and his older brother is also gone from now too. So this is the first holiday season withoout either of our sons. Adam left Dec. 27th last year to go to England per Air Force orders. So this year their little sister gets to keep mom and dad busy spoiling her. She is 17 and has talked to us about joining the military also. That would make all four of our children in the service somewhere. How is your daughter doing with her big brother being gone? I will get our boys in prayer as they face battlestations. I believe they will be awesome and when Christmas gets here we will all have sailors in our families. Merry Christmas to you and your family.
Karen
