I have been off since about the time my son left for bootcamp. My sailor Ryan is my firstborn and is 20 years old. I have a daughter, Brittany that is 17 years old. And of course I also have my husband, Bill of 25 years. The other children in the house are 3 Chihuahuas. What was I thinking?????

When I heard “Navy,” I:
Needed to learn more about it
From my experience with the Navy, the most important thing I learned was:
SOMETIMES THEY DONT COMMUNICATE DUE TO THEM BEING HOME SICK, NEED TO LEARN TO BE PATIENT.
Through this Navy experience, I now believe:
It was positive and maturing. Our relationship has grown stronger.

Hi Diana!
I am sorry that I have been absent from the site. At times the TR site was so busy that I found it difficult to keep up with all the gals, so I just visited every once in awhile.
I just learned yesterday that Ryan and Jeff are room mates! Jeff and I talked last night and he shared with me the news. He said that Ryan is a real nice guy and down to earth.
How funny, I thought about you this past weekend. I was driving up to Utah to visit my mom and I thought of you and the trip you took earlier this year and wondered how you were...then Jeff tells me yesterday that he thought you and I met on NFM....isn't that weird...
How nice that you had the chance to drive up to see Ryan. How was your visit? Was it your first time in Whidbey?

I have not yet had the opprotunity to see Jeff. But we have been talking a lot.
I was planning to fly up in July. I still have to talk to Jeff about it, I wanted to go and see him as soon as he arrived, but I think he was a bit overwhelmed with all the going ons, getting settled and such, that having me there might have added to the chaos. He seems to be settled now and is ready for a visit.
I am so eager to see him.
Hey if you would like email me at jogginmama@yahoo.com or jandcmc@sbcglobal.net. We can chat without having to log in on Navy site.
I'd love to hear how your visit with Ryan went. And hear about your trip up.
I hope you and your family are all doing well.
I am eager to hear from you....take care! Carol

Hi Diana, You are the first one I have met that has a sailor with VAQ-141. My son is an AT. He will reach his 5 years in June, but he has an extra 4 months after that. It is nice to know that I am not the only one on here. Gee..I wonder if our sons know each other. That would be a nice change. My son probably doesn't know any of the others who's Mom's are on here. I'm not going to homecoming either. I just have to wait for my son to come home, but it won't be to much longer now....at least I don't think so anyway.
Thanks for letting me know that I am not as alone as I thought.
Take care, keep in touch and God Bless.

Hi Diana...So nice to hear from you!! Thanks for dropping by. Boy I hear you Girl when it comes to being busy. Me too. i just haven't had the chance to hop on the site. i think I more I try to limit my time here, it can be very addicting and i tend to stay on longer than I should.
Tell me about your new job! What do you do?
Oh my gosh...I forgot that today is Sunday the day Capt. Wheeler updates his message...i will call to find out whats new.
have you heard from Ryan since your last post?
I finally received a phone call from Jeff last week? I cant remember...sucks getting old, at least I remember that he called! But we spoke for a little while. it was so good to hear his voice. He mostly talked about the drama going on with his friends here. I'm afraid most of his friends are girls...and I believe a couple of them like him more than just friends and he's not digging it. They contsantly smother him and he feels like he's being suffocated. They come around the house to drop off cookies or take me to the movies...its kind of nice...but I can't help but feel like an old shut in when they do that. haha! Don't get me wrong, they are sweet girls but I also wonder if they are just trying to "butter" me up to get to Jeff..Jeez put a uniform on a guy and the girls go wild! haha
Jeff is doing better Diana. His emails have been more positive the past couple weeks. he is taking better care of himself. I honesly believe that maybe he was in a funk for awhile, keeping to himself in his rack and not eating right, and no exercise.
I kind of "mamaed" him and suggested that he start getting on the treadmill and jog. I knew that if he did that, it would start him in the right direction of taking better care of himself. And it worked. he emailed yesterday and his attitude is even postitive about his fellow shipmates. I hope he keeps up the good work. its all a learning exerpience for them all, and for Jeff, he's having to learn how he needs to push himself hard to have a good outlook even in difficutlt circumstances.
I think he stuggles with more than just being on the carrier, you see my husband and I after 23 years of being married have been separated for the past two. Jeff was a Junior in high school when it happened and I believe it shattered his perfect world, as it did mine too.
Those things can't be swept under the rug easily or very quickly. So I think there are down times that Jeff thinks about those things. I have stressed to him that he needs to exercise. It helped me a ton. And I'm glad to hear that he is taking up on "mom's " advice! His Dad sent him a care package last week and I asked if he would stick some vitamins in box....funny thing..Jeffrey asked his Dad for vitamins after i suggested it. Us moms...we just know don't we! :)
I'm sorry, didn't mean to dump my drama on you...
Please let me know how your new job is going, I'd love to hear. also let me know how Ryan is.
I'll keep both Ryan and Jeff and all the others in my prayers! And us Mom and Dads too!
Take care Diana! Looking forward to hearing from you!

Hi Diana, Hope this post finds you and your family doing well and of course I hope Ryan is doing well too.
Your pictures of Utah are so pretty! they almost look like postcards! A picture never does the real thing justice does it. I'm sure your breath was taken away when you were there!
Have you heard from Ryan? I hope he is well. I know that he has been on deployment a bit longer than Jeff. And if Jeff is getting tired of being on the ship, I'm sure Ryan is beyond that! I continue to pray for them.
Hey how about this crazy/beautiful California weather we are having...it's actually hot today! And I hear there are record breaking hi's in store for this upcoming week!
Jeff shared with me that the carrier was rocking like crazy this past week. How did Ryan hold up being on deck? It had to be frightening! What a brave guy!
Just wanted to drop in to say hi and to let you know been thinking of ya!
Take good care!

Good Afternoon Diana,
I hope you get to hear from Ryan today. What a treat that will be. When was the last time that you saw Ryan? At graduation?
It must be difficult for the guys, i should say sailors to adhere to the tough work schedules they have. I was thinking last night, that being out at sea has to be trying. But there isn't much one can do. I mean these poor guys cant even have a beer or glass of wine to destress they are not old enough! Such hard workers. Great guys.
I am learning different things on the Roosevelt board. i don't feel so alone in all this. Like I said Jeff doesn't share much, which is fine, now that I have the resources to learn more. :)
Jeff's work schedule just changed, he seems to be happy about it. He's working the night shift...he had another name for it, night check I believe is what he wrote. he let me know that we could talk more now since we would be on the same schedule. he puts a lot of "haha's" in his emails...his way of coping i think.
I didn't get a phone call from Jeff on Christmas day either. I was a little bummed but thought that it just might have been too much hassle to do so. And i wanted him so much to have gone and done some sightseeing as he did, instead of waiting in line to call me. He said he took lots of picutres while on liberty.
Ryan is 6'2"!! WOW, he's tall, I think Jeffrey is just 6' even. I know that they soon will learn of each other. I'm sure they keep real busy. Although Jeff says he does a lot of reading. Another one of his ways of adjusting.
I bet Utah was beautiful! How nice that you had the chance to go. Bryce Canyon is beautiful. I love it. Everytime I've been, the beauty just makes me cry... it's gorgeous. The colors are fantastic and everything is so breathtaking.
A nice place to live. Can't wait to see some pictures.
Thanks for posting. You are exactly what I needed. I've been a bit blue today. This was a nice pick me up....you take care Diana, have a nice day.

Hi Diana, how are you? Hope all is well. Haven't seen you up on the board lately. Have you heard from Ryan? Jeff emailed me last night. He usually leaves me a short email, just to let me know he's ok. Not much details, but thats ok. I get more from watching Carrier on line! :) but that's Jeff. A man of few words...except when it comes to his writing. he did say they were having swim call, but that he was not going to participate. How about Ryan?
Take care, Carol

Hi Diana..thanks for all the great details. Yes, we will be good friends, alot in common, two young men stationed at Whidbey Island, and on board the USS TR! Ryan's job sounds very interesting and very critical. I'm sure you are very proud. Jeff signed up for SK but that job was not available upon graduation, so I guess as the military does, they placed him where he was needed. Jeff serves as a Yeoman (sp?) for the squadron. I don't know if Jeff is actually doing the job yet. I believe from what I've been told by retired sailors that initial duties on board require starting at the bottom, cleaning, mopping, and other important jobs. I think it's good for Jeff to learn the things he is learning. He has great work ethics, working for Ralphs during his last two years of high school, this only enforces them that much more.
Ryan has been on the Big Stick for awhile then if he joined before Halloween. Was the TR already out on tour when Ryan arrived on board?
I really cannot believe that Jeff is experiencing all the things he is. I don't think he realized it either up until recently. I was able to read one of his emails to his Dad and Jeff shared with him some pretty enlightening breakthroughs about himself and about what he is doing. All good stuff.
We are blessed Moms!

Hi Diana...and happy new year to you :) I learned what a Green shirt is. I was able to email Jeff last night :) He explained, I learned that Jeff is a white shirt guy....and Jeff is attached to the VAQ-141.

Be safe tonite, and happy new year!

Hi Diana, thanks for your welcome. How nice that we are in the same time zone! ;). I live in Moorpark, which is about 50 miles west of LA, in Ventura county.
You mentioned that your son Ryan is a 'green shirt' I apologize, I don't know what that is. My son Jeff is 18 fresh out of high school, boot camp and "A" school! He is attached to VAQ-141 squadron! Wow!! I am guessing then that they both are stationed in Washington then. Please forgive me if I sound like a ditz. Jeffrey is a yeoman(sp?) for the squadron. He graduated with honors back in August. How long has Ryan been in the Navy?
