Hi Darlynn,
I also live in New England and we said goodbye to our son Evan on December 16th. He flew from Hartford/Springfield on the 17th and called that night to say he was ok. Hav you talked to Kutis yet? Do you know what ship he is in? I have found N4M very helpful and I have learend so much about boot camp from other moms. I just wrote Evan a card but don't know if or when he will get it. I hope you will stay in touch. I also have had two dogs and one was a yellow lab. They are the best!
Take good care of yourself,
Polly

Hi Darlynn! My son Andy left for boot camp the same day as Kurtis. I wonder if they have passed each other in the halls yet? I was thinking that there could be a possibility that they might allow the guys to call us on Christmas, so I am going to hang by my phone all day. I also got a blue pillar candle. I showed it to him the Sunday before and told him this candle would be lit on Christmas day so that he will know we are thinking and praying for him. I think I'll have to say some special prayers for our guys tonight! Hang in there, let's stay in touch. -Mary Ellen, Coppell, TX

Hi Darlynn,
Welcome to N4M. We are right down the highway in Worcester. My son graduated from bootcamp on 10/24 and is now in Goose Creek, SC. for Nuke School. I am happy to say he made it through bootcamp and with the help of this site I did too. It does get easier after Bootcamp. A lot of your questions will be answered via bootcamp moms, but feel free to ask me any questions if you like. P.S. I have a Jack Russell that might need your help......just kidding!

Hi Darlynn - I just thought I would welcome you and tell you to stay strong. Boot camp is the longest eight weeks for both you and your son, but he will be better for it. It also prepares you for the future when they are at sea and cannot contact you. My son has been in the Navy for 2 years as a Electricians Mate, went to Nuclear Power School and serves aboard the fast attack submarine the USS Seawolf. When he is deployed, they can be gone for up to 6 months at a time with limited contact. Here is a few tips to share, always, always write letters, read the paper and let him know whats happening with sports or whatever he likes to follow, mention his friends names and include info, include pictures (insert as part of letter) and always try to remain positive, and upbeat.

Hi and Welcome to N4M. We are proud to have you aboard. Please look on the Events For Blue Candle Lighting. We are lighting blue candles on Christmas day to remember our sons, daughters and spouses who will not be home for the holidays. Some of our children will be home but we wanted to make sure we remember the ones on duty and their families. Please RSVP as if your are attending because it counts. All you have to do is light a blue candle in your home on Christmas day and you will have participated. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Hi Darlyn~
Welcome to the website and I hope you find it as comforting as I have! My nephew left for bootcamp 12/10/08 and we were where you are about a week ago. Our family is small but extremely close so we had multiple see you laters (at the house when recruiter picked him up, at the hotel day before he left and at the MEPS office after he took his oath) before we finally waved him off. He wasn't able to call his mom (my sis) until after 10pm the night he left and then only for 2 min. My sis got his box of belongings on the next Tuesday and an actual letter from him on the Wednesday (we were not sure if he would be able to write so quickly but were ecstatic he could). We got the form letter with another address the next day which bummed us all out as we had mailed several pieces of mail to the first one! I understand that they will get the mail no matter what but it may be out of order. So that should be a timeline for you about contact. I believe they may be able to call home on Christmas so that is something to look forward to :0) I have found that writing out a card or letter when I am feeling blue helps, like you are speaking with your loved one. I try to let Charles know the every day things that are happening so it will feel like he is with us. Explore the site as you have time...it really does help to read what the experienced (and inexperienced) navy moms have to offer. Visit me on my page whenever you would like...we are all here to help each other!

HELP GETTING MY SON HOME THIS WEEKEND!

Anyone have any info for us? I have a son in Pennsicolla in his A school. My sister is terminally ill and we have been trying to get him home to see her before she passes away....she is not his 'immediate' family so Red Cross can't do anything.....I was trying to fly him home but this is proving to be more difficult as there is some sort of timing on base that he can't change? They did put him on a hold of some sort for one week so it is ok for him to leave. I am trying to get him out of FL on T… Continue
