About me:
I am 42 years old and divorced for a little over 2 months now. When I was first married (21 years ago) my ex-husband was in the Navy, so I have a little background knowledge. My son has joined the Navy but won't be leaving for boot camp until next June. I live in Michigan and work in a busy hospital as a CT Technologist. I am currently taking on line courses to get my bachelor's degree in radiology. My son will be joining in the NUKE program.

Stage of (Sailor’s) Navy Career?
In college
When I heard “Navy,” I:
Was proud
From my experience with the Navy, the most important thing I learned was:
Support! Always be there to listen and give advice when asked.
Through this Navy experience, I now believe:
This was the best decision he/she could have made

My son...

He is my best friend and confidant. He will be greatly missed but I know he will always be there for me. He is my rock, if it hadn't been for him, I don't know where I'd be today. He first decided to join the military right after high school, 2006. He wanted to join the air force, but then as luck would have it, he received a scholarship and decided to go to school until the money ran out. Then in June of this year, he and his girlfriend started talking about getting married. Now he began to wonder how he was going to be able to afford to take care of her and make a life for themselves as a married couple. He began talking about joining the military again. He went to the Air Force recruiting station 3 days in a row, they were closed each time no matter what the open times were on the sign or what time he went there. He decided, maybe the Navy would be better. The Navy recruiter was next door and were open each time he went there. So he walked in a young man (my baby boy), and out came a sailor. I am so proud of his decisions and what he has made of his life so far. I think it is the best decision he ever made and I stand behind him 100%.

I work part time for Sharing & Caring, which is the breast cancer educatioin and support group. My office is in the cancer resource center. I'm a graphic artist and do all the flyers/brochures/invitations for our department. Before that I was sect'y to the director of the Breast Care Center, and before that I worked in registration for years (second shift). Feel free to ask any questions that might come up. By the time your son is in BC, my son should be just about finished with A school, so I might have some answers for you!

Hi Dawn,
Just wanted to welcome you to this site. I wish I'd found it before my son left for BC...it would've helped a lot. By reading your comments, I see your son will be going to nuke school after basic. My son just started BC, and will be heading to nuke school as well. Also, both my husband and I work at WBH Royal Oak...I'm out in the Cancer Center now, but my husband (network tech) is all over. small world!

Well I work part-time days, so it is easy to miss each other. I will have to stop in sometime!

I'm not sure when he will be graduating I don't even know his division number yet. I was reading your page and it says you work at a hospital. I'm guessing we work at the same place!

Hey Dawn. Yes I plan on going to his graduation. I am just kind of freaking out because I don't yet know his address and I don't want other people to start getting letters and have him not getting any thinking we don't care. It's so hard but I hope that time does pass fast like you say. I actually live and work in Royal Oak! Thank you for writing me!
