Hi Debbie L, I live on the outskirts of Kingston in the country. I work at the post office in Port Ewen and some days in Ellenille. Plattekill isn't far at all. I would love to meet and have lunch. I just got Molly's brief phone call tonight. It only lasted 36 seconds. I said how are you in the beginning and she said "fine" but before she hung up I said "So, your okay? and she started to cry and said no. It broke my heart. I have to go to my daughter Hannah's community theater she is doing. Talk to you soon! Tammy

Hi Debbie, The scarfs are simple. If you are knitting with sport weight yarn, it takes 2 skeins. With worsted weight I get a scarf out of one. Its the same for crotcheting. The scarfs must be desert camo or a color that resembles sand. All you need to do is get a look at their uniforms and pick a color that blends in. They can be no wider than 8 inches and no longer than 60 inches. But they can be shorter if you want. The fleece scarfs are the easiest. The fabric is already 60 inches wide so all you need to do is cut then 7 or 8 inches wide. Just figure out how many you want to do and then buy the exact amount so you don't have any waste. JoAnn fabrics has a fleece that looks a lot like a desert camo. Its actually suppose to resemble a tie dyed fabric but it is the right shades of sand or dark beige. If you have any questioneds just let me know. BTW, when I knit, I just knit both sides and when I crotchet I use a double crotchet. Just remember no fringe it can get caught in their gear.

Hi Debbie, My real name is Anita. I used my initials to make up a name for a character I had for Everquest 2 and it just kinda stuck with me. They say not to use your last name, especially if its the same as your NAvy som or daughter to protect them. That's why I used Kamile because there is another Anita on Navy 4 moms. But you can call me either. My son RJ has been in since August 2006. That's when he went to boot camp. He signed up in April'06. I miss him. He is married to a terrific gal and they are currently in Mississippi until he gets deployed again. He is a Construction Electrician. I get to talk to him when he calls and his father or brother isn't home. or when he calls and actually has time to talk to his mom. Most of the time its to talk to Dad or Tyler about the Everquest2 game they play online. I generally keep busy by knitting, crocheting or some other crafts or reading. talk soon.

Hi Karen,

I just read your note below to Debbie and it made me feel better to realize that I am not the only one who never hears from their son. Chris graduated from boot camp in March 2007 and then went to A school in Norfolk. He been on the USS George Washington since 2008..then they had the fire and wound up in San Diego until they left for Japan. I haven't seen him in over a year and no call since January and it really breaks my heart. So reading your comment really helped. Thank you. Barbara

Hi Debbie,
My daughter has been on the GW for almost 2 years so she fought the big fire (she's a fire fighter), sailed to all the ports and ended up in japan with them. If your sons contact doesn't get in touch with him before he goes, let me know and I will get my daughter or one of her male friends to get in touch with him. There are several things he will want to make sure and take with him. What's his rate? Have you joined our GW group yet? If you haven't please do and let me be the first to welcome you aboard!

Thank you so much. I just loved the pattern. I've got a son in school at Groton and a son-in-law who leaves for bootcamp in about a month. I'm crocheting them American flag afghans and I really need a break from this. This pattern is wonderful! Thanks again.

Wow Debbie,
That is s interesting. We heard that the Washinton was now in Japan. It is kind of funny actually. My Brother In law was on the USS Washington 11 years ago in Virginia. We went to Virginia so that my son 10at the time could go on the ship. My father inlaw (Ex navy man) and husband and Son got to go out on the (I forgot the name of it) one day tour , where they go out to sea and watch flight similation and get tours from family members. i was supposed to go as well but I completely freaked out when I saw the size of the ship at 4am.Anywho. That trip decided my sons future. he came off the ship and swore that the Navy was for him and that was it. Of course we laughed and agreed but "Who New?'. believe it or no my brother inlawdid kriogenics on ship and he was the clumbsiest person I have ever metLOLOL (just had to add that in. Michael loves Japan, he has picked up alot of the language (he has always been good with that). The funny thing is that he has seen so much and yet all I get pictures of are of him in resturants. And the one thing he founds "amazingly beautiful" are the Cherry blossom trees when they are in bloom. he gets homesick every now and then. But he has finally started to call and right on a regular bases. the first year was the worst for me (he and I are so close, due to me being a single parent so long with him) he hardly called at all and i thought that he forgot how to right. but as I learned " he was doing the guy thing, being independent and taking care of himself. Actually I think it was for the best, cause our relationship is better now. Much more on a grown up level. i hate to admit it but he was a little bit of a mommas boy.
You must be so proud of your son. So what does his job pertain to and is this his main goal in life to do this? Cab't wait to hear from you

Hey Debbie,
I saw your comment about your son finishing up in Pensacola and getting over the shock of going to Japan. I know exactly how you feel. My son is an AS. I was in route driving to Pensacola for my son's graduation from A school when he sent me a text to tell me he was going to the George Washington. What a shock. I was afraid he would get stationed on the west coast instead of the east. So much for that worry. When they first get to the base in Yokosuka they stay on a barge for a period of time for indoc classes. Then they have to stay on the ship for at least 45 days until they can do what they have to do to earn a card that lets them live in the barracks. For my son that time will definitely be longer than 45 days because he is doing galley duty for ninety days right now. He hasn't even gotten to work in the shop and I think most of the equipment isn't even on the ship right now. Hope this helps. If you have any more questions I'll try to answer them.
Claudia
