My 13 year old daughter just joined the Sea Cadets (she wants to go to the Naval Academy) and she is getting ready for her recruit training in a few weeks. Any suggestions for a successful "boot camp" experience? Thanks!

About me:
I am originally from Austin, Texas! I am married and have two wonderful sons. One who is in the Navy! And another son who is a senior and has desires to go to into the Service as well. He said his brother has opened his eyes to so much the Navy can offer. College is another option as well. We live in Lockhart, Texas home of some famous Barbeque!

I am here to support or represent my:
Child/Stepchild
Stage of (Sailor’s) Navy Career?
Thinking about joining
When I heard “Navy,” I:
Was concerned or afraid
From my experience with the Navy, the most important thing I learned was:
Giving my son back to God and letting him take care of him and have control over his decisions in life. After seeing how much he has changed. I would not change a thing. He has come back as a new person. He is grownup so much in so little time. He is respectful to everyone and kind and giving. I could not have asked for more. He has told me mom I knew the path I wanted to take in life it is going to be okay!
Through this Navy experience, I now believe:
It was positive and maturing. Our relationship has grown stronger.

I haven't truly been putting alot into going on here since John really hasn't done much since commissioning, he was waiting for the next class to form for flight school. He is off and now in Pensacola.

What was the outcome with your son?

Hi Debi,
My son applied to the Academy - he was put on a waiting list, we had to decide at that point what to do, this had been his dream since he was a little boy. We received a call from a recruiter in our area, that if the Academy didn' want him. ROTC would, they gave him the four year scholarship, he attened the Unveristy of Florida and just graduated and was commissioned. In the end we all feel this really was the best thing that could have happened to him, not sure he would have had the same expeience had he gone to the Academy. It is not a decesion he has ever regretted having to make. I hope things will work our for your son.

Hi Debi ~ hope you enjoyed your Mothers Day with your family and friends. Thanks for letting me know, that the Lord is the prayer answering business! Praise God. I'm glad that Rafael was able to get on the waitlist now for going to the Academy! Yes, prayers are being answered and please keep my daughter Lauren in your prayers as she is headed out on deployment as we speak. Yes, He is amazing! I hope to hear more good news from you soon, until then be blessed, Sherry

Hi Debi- Last year sometime in April my daughter received a letter from the Academy that she was put on the waiting list. It's good that it's not an outright rejection but it does make the wait agonizing. It wasn't until late May that she spoke to the Sr. Medical Officer there and he decided he would not grant her appeal for a waiver. She was crushed. Very long, long road so I do know what it's like. She wouldn't even consider NROTC until after I-Day passed. Remarkably though it has probably been one of the best things that has every happened to her! Go figure. I hope things work out for your son. Keep me posted.- Paulette

Hi Debi,

Just read your post in Blesseth Assurance about your phone calls to the academy. Just thought I would ask you if you spoke to your son's Regional Director and if you gave his correct candidate number both times. These two things are very important to do whenever you communicate about your son's status.

Congratulations on his acceptance into NAPS!! I'm excited that both our sons will be attending NAPS together!! That is a true blessing from the Lord! Sherry
