Awaiting a possible medical discharge

Hi everyone. My son was diagnosed with epilepsy last February (he's been in Japan since Oct. '08). He was told by his Dr. there was a 95% chance he would be medically discharged and that he "would probably be home by August". It's been almost 10 months and still no answer. It's getting harder and harder for him (and us, his parents) to be patient. He tries so hard not to complain (he says he knows he could be going through something much worse)....but at the same time he says that "being in limb… Continue

Hi Debi, I am so sorry Daniel wont be here this year. I imagine it makes it worse just waiting for an answer to his situation.

I love Gaitlinburg. It is a fun place. Do you go to Dolly World..ha ha. Your plans sound like fun. We will go to a friends for Christmas Eve and then my dads on Christmas Day.

Well I am gearing up for shopping today. At least I have ideas of what I'm getting and know where I am going. We all went in on Cory's computer but finding little things to go under the tree is challenging since he cant take too much back with him.

Well better get at it!! Have a good day. Oh...I have been meaning to ask you..did they find out what caused your blood pressure to be high?

Hi Debi...things here are back to good. I am guessing he was just so exhausted he temporarily lost his mind LOL. We had a fun day. The whole family..well the 4 of us..went to the Chiefs game. We lucked out and it was sunny and 50 here. It still didnt help the Chiefs win but we tailgated and had fun. Now Cory is home here sleeping on the couch. Last night we went to dinner with a family friend Cory has known all his life and he got to meet his new (1 year old) niece that he hadnt met yet. It was also fun. Tonight one of his best buddies is finally coming home from college. They havent seen each other for 1 1/2 years.

Wow looks like some of the group got hit with tons of snow! A friend of mine is stuck in the North Carolina airport. I havent watched the news today but it sounds like you guys on the east are really getting it.

Tomorrow I am going to hit the shopping hard and get it finished. What do you guys do for Christmas?

Hope you have a good evening. Take care, Hugs!!!!

Hi Debi, thanks so much for all the kind words. I almost called you last night. So far today has been much better. You are so sweet and please know how much I appreciate your support and friendship!

Are you getting pounded by all the snow? My cousin in Roanoke put pictures on facebook and they got a ton.

Stay warm. Have a good evening, again thanks and I will call soon when no one is around! Hugs!

Goodmorning Debi, the holiday train is part of the KC Southern Railroad and that is who Hugo works for. He is a chef to the execs. Every year from Thanksgiving to Christmas the holiday train goes from down south to Union Station here stopping in small towns. They have about 4 or 5 cars that are all decorated for Christmas and the kids can go through them and see Santa and the Elves. For the holiday train he cooks for the crew. He is usually gone for a month but this year got to get off early since Cory got home.

We had a pretty stressful day yesterday. Cory was tired from spending the night with Calley so he was grumpy to all of us. Then last night he went to the gym and stayed too long so he missed dinner with his dad. When he got home he felt bad...but then the way 19 year olds do suddenly everything that is going wrong on his leave is MY fault. He tried to tell me that since I am being so chill and not demanding his time it must be because I dont want to spend time with him...went downhill from there. Debi I was so angry that I was ready for him to go back. Then I felt bad for that. I guess we were so ready to have this grown man come back but he is still a 19 year old kid. There also seems to be this air of the prodigal son and we should all cater to his every wish as it is his leave. I understand all of this but it was still very frustrating yesterday.

Hopefully that was the end of that and we can get back to enjoying this leave. Thanks for letting me vent...have a good day. Val

Goodmorning Debi, dinner was great at Calley's last night. My dad came and we all got to laughing and had a good time. I was finally able to get some good pictures of Cory. He spent the night over there and I am afraid to hear how the rest of the evening went after I left...ha ha.

Today we go pick up his dad. He is finished with the holiday train. He is very excited to get home and spend time with Cory.

So far the tree has stayed up!! Have a good day. Hugs to you!! Val

Hi Debi, just taking a break from the war with the Christmas tree to get on here and catch up. This Christmas tree has been a bugger since we got it. First day Cory and his friend didnt want to mess with getting it in the stand correctly. So it kept falling over and finally I thought I had gotten it and all the lights were burned out. So last night Calley and I get new lights and I got them all on as she fell asleep. This morning the tree fell over. So for 5 hours now I have been fighting it. Finally got it. Cory and his buddy had too much to do to help naturally. So I told them all this is the last year of a live tree. But like I told you before I am always proud of myself when I accomplish what I think is a mans job...I am woman hear me roar...LOL

Going to Calley's for dinner. Cory has been busy with the buddies and hunting. Not much else to report here. Going to put a few decorations on the tree and call it good! Hope you are having a good day. Val

Hi Debi, we are having fun and relaxing. Calley and I realized yesterday that not only is this Cory's vacation but it is ours as well. Cory has now been asleep for over 12 hours. It all finally hit him last night. I felt bad for my dad at dinner because he wanted to know all about Japan and the Navy. Cory was so exhausted he was miserable and at one point said..."I am on vacation..I live the Navy everyday and dont want to spend my vacation talking about it". We knew he was so tired that he didnt really mean that b/c he has been busy showing all the buddies his awards and coins he brought home.

So we got home at 8:30 and he went straight to bed. I'm glad because I dont want him to get run down and get sick while he is here.

Today he will get to see his dad as the train is back in town for a day. Then he will be home on Friday for good. Hopefully we can get the tree today..but naturally we waited until the day it is only 20 here! Ha ha.

Have a good day. Hugs back to you!!

Goodmorning Debi, I did finally get some rest last night. Cory is off duck hunting with his buddy..he is in heaven. So I am sitting here letting it all finally sink in!!!

Yesterday was a whirlwind..at 1pm Calley came over and finally woke Cory up. He had so much he wanted to get done all in one day. We ended up needing to go to Sprint because he forgot his phone in Japan. As it worked out I was due for the upgrade and so he got my old phone with his number. Which will be good because we will have an extra phone now for emergencys. Then we had to go get a new battery for his truck. That pretty much took the whole day, but the nice thing was that at one point Cory and I were the only ones in the car and I got to get some more info on what it is he does in Japan. (What he could tell me that is).

It was so great last night because I was in bed when he and the buddy came home to grab all his hunting stuff as he was spending the night with his friend. Before he left he came and laid down next to me so I could scratch his back just like when he was little. So funny how he can be such a grown man at times and still my little boy at others!

I think today I am going to start putting up some of the Christmas stuff. We may end up with no tree this year because he is so busy trying to go and do stuff and be with everyone all at once...it might be hard to lock him into a few hours to do the tree..ha ha.

I hope you have a good Sunday. Take Care, val

Hi Debi, thank you so much for calling me last night. That was so sweet. His plane was delayed an hour so he didnt get here until 11:45 my time. I was pretty much a zombie by then, but still so excited to see him. He looks great and is glad to be home. His buddies came to the airport and then back to the house. It was great because I thought he was going to be so different and he acted the same with the buddies as before. So weird also that it has been so long since I have seen him but once he got here it seems like no time has passed.

Cory and the buddies needed to make a Walmart run at 2am????? I think just energy that needed to be spent. Then one of the buddies spent the night so when they got back here they stayed up until 5am. Since I cant sleep well at night I too was up until 5am....so I am pretty much tired today!!! But worth it. They are still sleeping!

The Christmas party was also lots of fun. And the food was really good this year...ha ha.

Hope you are having a good day. Talk to you soon, val
