I have sent Applebee's cards to sailors stationed there. So that is a good option. Here is a link to the NEX cards: https://www.navy-nex.com/command/customer_service/gift_card.html

PIR 5-15-09

What a day! Pass in Review is an amazing event. Seeing your sailor out there with all of the graduating divisions is enough to burst your heart with PRIDE! We only get to be with our son for a few short hours before he goes to A school but I am tresuring every moment.

SAILOR SPENCER!

I got 'the call' at 10:50 a.m. today. WOW, it's real, he's done it..........Spencer is a SAILOR in the United States NAVY! I am overjoyed and full of pride..........and exhausted! I was up four times last night, looking at the clock, knowing my son was doing Battle Stations. He said it was actually a lot of fun. I could hear the pride in his voice as we talked.
Now all I have to do is wait until PIR on Friday, 5-15-09. What a day that is going to be!

Almost there...........

Well, it's been a long road but the end is in sight. Today I got both a letter and a short call from my recruit. He told me he'd passed all of his PFA and was looking forward to Battle Stations starting on Thursday (5/7) evening. He was looking forward to giving me that "I'm a SAILOR" call on Friday and being able to talk to me for longer.

I'm so proud of my son and can't wait to join him on 5-15-09 and celebrate his accomplishments and graduation.

To those that have gone before and lent their… Continue

Letter from a recruit..........

Today I received a letter from one of Spencer's divsion mates. I had sent an extra letter to Spencer and told him to give it to a recruit that didn't get mail that day. He did and this recruit wrote me back! He said he appreciated everyone on the 'outside' thinking about them. It was a real treat to get his letter!
He told me my son is a cool guy and also the tallest in the division. That should help when we are searching for him at PIR!

Grad and Go

The graduation packet arrived today. It was so great to have the information in my hands and be able to firm up our travel plans. I actually bought our airfare! Spencer will be leaving for his A school right after graduation and a couple hours of liberty with us on Friday, May 15. It's too bad we won't have more time with him but I'm excited he will be getting to his A school and onto the next phase of his training. :-)

Hi Dee, Scott just called and was so excited about receiving his gift card from you. Thank you so much for making his Christmas apart of yours. He wanted me to thank you for the gift card.
I told him the story about how you are helping Sailors being away from home for the holidays and he could not be belive that there were people out there with a heart like you. He told me, "Mom, this is awesome."
Dee thank you again for sending Scott his gift card. My family would like to wish you a very Merry Christmas.

I managed to find one picture that my love took of your son & a friend!
It's kinda blurry & isn't the best quality, but I thought you'd appreciate to have it anyhow :)

(I can only remember the friends last name, so I can't tell you who it was. Lol. I can tell you that we gave him & his date a ride to the ball though =P He's a nice guy. It was nice to finally meet him too.)

I met your son!!!!!

He is sooo tall! You were right! He was looking sharp :)
I didn't get to meet his date though because she was getting changed into her dress at the time, so I didn't get any pictures of them together =/ Sorry!
Also, I took a really cool picture of him & my bf/fiance!(kinda..hehe), but since I lost that camera... :'( I'm really sad about that.

I hope you're doing well! I know it has been a long time since I've kept in touch on here <3

Hi Dee!

Thanks for the HUG!!! I really needed it! It's been a tough summer but it has made me realize even more how important my faith, family, and friends are... THANK YOU so much for being here for me...

I was soooo excited to see your picture with Spencer. I can only imagine how wonderful your visit was! How long did you have together? How is he doing with his classes? Is he still with his girl? Cody has been spending time with a new girl and he really seems to like her - I just hope he keeps his focus! :-)

What about you? Second week of school already huh? Glad to hear your classes are good.... that makes all the difference in the world! I'm heading into this year with a very new attitude - no more spending afternoons until 5,6,7:00 there any more. I have come to realize that life is WAY too short... I will still give 115% to my classes but all the after school hours? Nope! :-)

Well, the day is slipping away so I am going to run. Hope you are doing well and to keep in touch. You mean so much to me Dee...

Love,

Sue

Hey Dee,
How are you, my friend? So glad you and your daughter had a great trip.
I need to ask you... is Spencer feeling any regret? Cody called today and sounded so down. He said his instructor this week is a bear, he hurt his knee, and he just misses home. He said there are tmes he asks himself, "Why did I do this?" but then, he looks at the situation and realizes how proud he is of his decision... I guess there are just those fleeting moments of doubt that make my heart break... just a dumb old Mom who no longer has control...
Thanks for listening... I guess I just needed to vent.
