SandyD....we are in the Central Valley of Cali and like your son, my Derek woofed down Mexican food....especially taco truck food. He too is in Japan now. Hasn't really talked much about the food. I have heard many drinking stories though.....

When I read this in our local paper my first thought was for that poor boy's family. The second thought was "he was a PO3...that's what my son is!" That really brought it home. Selfish, I know, but I realized that some Petty Officer 3rd. Class's m...

A local sailor was killed in an ambush. Petty Officer Third Class Layton (Riverbank, California) was bending over a Marine lieutenant, tending to his wounds, when both were killed. Here is a link to the local story in case anyone would like to off...

That is funny you say your sons miss Mexican food. Every time my son comes back to California from Mississippi he asks to go out for Mexican food. I guess there is no honest-to-goodness Mexican food in Gulfport.

Hi my son Derek is a Seabee with NMCB 1 and was deployed to Japan in August. He came from a small base in Gulfport, Mississippi so he was amazed at how huge the base is in Yokosuka. I am so glad he was able to go to Japan as it has always been his...

Just wait, pretty soon you'll have to put the leaf back in to hold all the grandbabies. We now have 5 grandchildren and it get's hectic around here again. Not on a day to day basis, but it's still good

My Navy father-in-law story is about the same. He died before I married my husband. I have been trying to find out what ship he was on. His ship was actually sunk and he was floating in the ocean for a couple of days. It was going between Australia and the Philippine Islands when it was hit. I have his pea coat and my mother-in-law still has his uniform but there is no ship badge sewn on to it due to it was a used uniform he bought when he got back state side. All his stuff was lost at sea. Can you imagine...

Anyway, I am so happy that you will have a sailor hug soon! I won't see mine until April. : ( It's all good though. We talk frequently and he's happy so I'm happy.

Denise: I am adding you as a friend so I can send you a pm with some info on the DVD. Hey, I have some old Navy photos to add to my page too. My husband's father was a Navy guy during WWII. Small world.

Hi Denise: what div. was your son and what day did he graduate? My son was div. 044, PIR Jan. 4, 2008. Any chance they graduated the same day/same division? Anyway, I have been frantically searching for the address. I know it cost $29.00 money orders only and I got it right in the timeframe expected. I promise I'll get that address for you.

Hi Denise,
I'm sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. Yes, I'm from Modesto. Lived there for nearly 45 years before we moved here 2 years ago. (Houston, TX area). I still have strong ties to Modesto that I'm sure I'll have forever as that is where my family and core of friends still remain. How are you doing? Where is your son now?
