About me:
I have lived in a suburb of Houston for 33 years, but was raised in Rhode Island. I am an interior designer in my own business and I am also the Communications Coordinator for a large local church. When I'm not busy at one of those two jobs, I work part time at Coldwater Creek for fun AND the discount!! Michael is our only child, so it was a big decision for everyone when he decided to go in the Navy. I've been married for 33 years and we have 3 dogs and a cat to keep us busy, now that Michael is a SAILOR!
I am here to support or represent my:
Child/Stepchild
Stage of (Sailor’s) Navy Career?
Enlisted
When I heard “Navy,” I:
Was concerned or afraid
From my experience with the Navy, the most important thing I learned was:
I need to support his decision because, after all, it's his life and his choice. He delay enlisted in November, 2007 (while he was still in high school) and leaves on August 14, 2008 for Boot Camp.
Through this Navy experience, I now believe:
It was positive and maturing. Our relationship has grown stronger.

It looks like I did send my message twice. I didn't think it was going to go through to you. Sorry to be redundant! Steve seems to be doing pretty well in A school. He's had 3 years of college, so the math is pretty much review so far. Electricity is new for him though. When we spoke to him on Father's Day, he said he was waiting for it to get more challenging, not too bad so far. I'm sure there will be plenty of challenges ahead as they move on to power school. I think Michael will be starting power school before Steve. He told us that A school classes begin every 2 weeks, but power school classes begin only every 2 months. According to him, he will just miss the start of the class that Michael is probably starting in August (?), and has to do t-track until near the end of November he thinks.

Hi Denise, I found out about you from mcmeg. My son, Steve, was in the Div. 921 band with Michael. It's nice to "meet" other moms who have sailors in the same class. Steve is an EM, so he's in 0931MT instead of 0931A, but it's close! We're driving out to GC this week to visit him for the July 4th weekend.

Hello Denise, I learned about you from mcmeg. My son, Steve, was in the Div. 921 band with your son and hers. He's an EM in 0931MT. We're driving out to GC this week to visit Steve over the July 4th weekend. I understand Michael is an MM. It's nice to find other mom's whose sailors were in the band together. I know they're not in the exact same class now, but they're close!

Hi, Denise,
We spoke to Chris this morning because we were letting him know that we were mailing two packages to him. He said that their first test is on Monday and he would be studying quite a bit this weekend. He sounded good.... Hopefully, this first test will be encouraging for them all. I told him that we would be praying.... Have a nice weekend.

Hi Denise,
I haven't heard about the new policy. I will ask Chris next time I talk with him. (That sounds pretty strict!!) Hopefully, our guys won't get themselves into that position. Chris also called last night and said that the first day was pretty long. He gave me his new address. He seems pretty optimistic, though he said that their hours will be long. Did you get flooding in our area yesterday and last night? It was pretty scary driving to work this morning. My husband has business meetings this week in the Galeria area and we are staying at the Westin Oaks and I am driving to Friendswood from there this week.
And speaking of church... Chris will go... if he doesn't have something else to do. I want him to find a place that encourages him to walk with God. I think that with the challenges they will face, they need to lean on God... I will be praying that both Chris and Michael will meet friends who will influence them back to God. (It's my desire that Chris would become that type of friend)
Have a great day today... and God bless.
Sandra

Chris also played paint ball last Sunday and was going again yesterday... So maybe they have met.. I'm trying to encourage him to find a church...Chris also starts classes today. I'll be saying a prayer for both of them since they will be under a lot of pressure to perform. It helps that others are going through the same process and that they can help and encourage one another.

Thank you Denise. I finally did hear from Chris on Tues. of this week. He gave me the same address that you gave me. I'm not sure about the new address either... but hopefully, they will still receive anything sent to the other. Chris said that they are getting to rest quite a bit... I'm sure that is needed after the stress of BC and the beginning of a new kind of stress next week. Chris did tell me that he had met someone from Katy.... must be Michael. Hopefully, they will become friends.
God bless
Sandra

Hi Denise,
I havnt been on for a while..Hope Michael is ajusting well to GC. Isn't it wonderful that you can talk to your son now! even if he is calling collect:)
It's so funny, I have learned that the phone becomes our life line. I wont go to far without my phone:) even when I run the sweeper i put the phone in my pocket just in case Joseph calls:)
yes, a lot of changes for us too.
It was wonderful to have Joseph home, even the doggies enjoyed having a hug from him.
It was so tough having to let him go again.
what do you think of the Christian chat group?
Well take care, stay busy and I will say a prayer for all our precious sailors. lol Grace

Thank you so much Denise for the address. I thought that I would hear from Chris today, but didn't.... We are trying to get his laptop ready to send him and it will be nice to get that out to him. He had let his cell phone expire... so I guess he will have to get another there.. Chris is 23 and while we are new at this "military" life, we are excited about the opportunities that he will be given... We will just have to pray that they don't burn out and are able to stay focused on the goal.
We live in the Baytown area and I teach in the Clear Creek district... (Clear Brook HS) It's nice to think that maybe sometime when our sons are able to come back home they might be able to keep each other company. We were at the meet and greet, but probably left about 8 or 8:30. Did you meet Kathy who is also from the Houston area? Her daughter Sara went to A school at Pensacola. Thanks again Denise....
