Profile Information

About me:
I am a mother of three sons, two of whom serve in the US Navy. I have lived in Meridian for 13 years. I am married to the love of my life for over 31 years. We have two beautiful daughters-in-law and one precious grandson.
I am here to support or represent my:
Child/Stepchild
Stage of (Sailor’s) Navy Career?
Enlisted
When I heard “Navy,” I:
Was proud and encouraged it
From my experience with the Navy, the most important thing I learned was:
I am a seasoned Navy mom and I have learned with the Navy it's a hurry up and wait and everything is subject to change. After moms have one deployment, espcially to Iraq, they get easier as you know kind of what to expect.
Through this Navy experience, I now believe:
It was positive and maturing. Our relationship has grown stronger.

...Greg will hopefully be home? Bummer deal if he doesn't. I know you'll be thrilled to death playing with Ian, but you really wanted to see Greg's ship come in...and he's your baby. Shhhh, we don't want them to hear us saying that, they'll just roll their eyes! Ships qualifying, who would've thunk it. My mom has not mentioned a word to me about Living Water closing. Shame on her. I have no clue where we're meeting. This is the first time I've been on N4M's in gosh...last time I wrote to you? I think that was it. Life, my friend, has taken some unexpected turns where my two boys are concerned. Yeah. We gotta get together for coffee. I'll be texting you soon to schedule a coffe date.

What a great surprise Des! I've been wondering when you were headed to Hawaii. I'm so excited for you. I'm hanging in there. Morgan's doing okay. There's lots of news on him. He's thinking about changing gears and going into the Physicians Assistance program instead of staying FMTB. He's getting married. His first deployment is scheduled for April/May next year. As for him being a full-fledged medic, he still needs to take the FMF test. That requires more studying and going in front of a review board. He can do what he needs to do to keep a Marine alive. Does Greg enjoy all these special deployments or is he getting tired of them? Regarding Richard, how does going in and out of the yards get things up and running smoothly? All this Navy stuff is foreign to me! Isn't that funny...my kid's in the Navy but I know nothing about Navy ships. Looks like you won't be coming to our gathering as it's looking like the 26th. I'll miss you but I know you'll be loving and hugging on that grandson and Greg! We really do need to get together for coffee again.

I knew if I looked hard enough I would find another Hoon family...even if short term!! LOL I can understand completely your feelings on more duty there - beautiful place to visit...if you can afford those tickets...yikes! That was our son's concern when he was offered Hawaii, he was concerned that it might be too expensive for us to visit him...just try and stop me!!! LOL

Des! You got some new pictures. It's the first time I've seen both boys together. I love them. Is this from the trip to Hawaii? So,my friend, how are you doing? I've started my countdown. We will be leaving in 3 wks 4 days! How many books have you read? I haven't read one yet. Still tryin to get the other two I have read first. I'm going to let you go. My computer's doing something weird. I can type and type and eventually the letters will catch up to me! Have a good one.

Hi Deslie,
I hadn't updated anything because I was waiting for David's physical. He didn't pass it - not because he's in bad shape but because of his vision. They are sending him to a second eye doctor and will try to get a waiver. I understand their reasoning but he's not planning on going into flying or navigattion. So for now, it's just wait and see. David was very disappointed. He's hoping that they will give him the waiver. Thanks so much for asking. Hope your boys are doing great! Margit

Hi Deslie,
I just found this group. My son just finished A school in GL and on Friday we are sending him off to C school in San Diego. When he is done with that he already has orders for the USS Port Royal. I read somewhere that your son in stationed on that ship and has bee there 5 yrs. How long will he be there? For some reason I thought that they were given orders ever 3-4 yrs and then they move on to another location???? As you can tell, this is the first in the family to go into the Navy. My inlaws were both in the Navy but only did one tour each. My husband was in the Army and he too, only did one tour (that is until his reserve unit was activated in 1990!!) BTW, you have some great pictures here!!

Oh Deslie, my heart feels for you. I've been an empty nester for 5 years now but it didn't hurt as much when the kids were around. David called today just to touch base. He'll let me know more after Thursday. I told him that I knew I did a good job, raising him to be an independent man and not be hanging on to the apron strings...but I still wanted to be kept in the loop. We talked for about 20 minutes (longest conversation we've had in 4 months or so). His wife is a very nice young lady but she's 6 1/2 years younger than him. She's also very very close to her mom (apparently, her mom didn't have the same idea about independent people that I did). She knows that she's welcome anytime over here but I don't push it. I have the m-i-l from hell (her ex (my f-i-l) calls her 'Dragon Lady' and for a good reason. I never wanted my in-laws to feel that way about me so I just hang back. It's almost like dealing with puppies and babies - let them come to me.

Thanks for letting me ramble on - if you ever want to get together for coffee or tea or anything, just let me know. I work 8-5 but since my DH's job is in San Francisco, I'm pretty open during the week.

Hi and thanks for asking.

No news yet beyond he's having his physical on Thursday. I guess he'll sit down and discuss his options after that. Have you ever heard the statement, "A son's a son until he takes a wife and a daughter's a daughter all of her life"? Well, David is that son. Once he became serious with Lisa, he doesn't keep me in the loop as much as I want. I do have a daughter but she and her family live in Erie, PA for now (she's finishing up her 2nd year in med school so she won't be moving back here for a while). I'll let you know when I do hear something. Margit
