LRB, I've heard similar stories of sailors not being able to join the Navy if they hadn't been off of their meds for a full year with satisfactory academic performance. A waiver is normally required and it's a case by case basis. I'm not sure about…

Kari, thanks a lot. My son got a copy of his contract today and he is going through the same pipeline as everybody else. Looks like he'll be leaving August 10th!

Thanks for the replies everyone. I guess I'll get a little more information once his contract is in writing and I'll be back to share what I learned.

Does anyone know the difference between Air Rescue (AIRR) and the wet AW rate (SAR)? My son signed passed his PST and signed for a helicopter rescue swimmer contract this morning. I've been told this is different from SAR in the fact that he is atta…

Rescue swimmer is not a rate in itself, it is a responsibility on top of your other duties as an AO. As far as being an AO and being a SAR swimmer, you have to get a contract for aircrew first. You can do this by talking to your recruiter and having…

Hello everyone, I'm new to all of this and my questions have probably already been answered, but thanks in advance for the responses anyway. My son swore into the Navy DEP a month or so ago. He was hoping to qualify for aircrew SARS but he failed…

Hi Diane! I was looking around on here for info on the depth perception test at MEPS for rescue swimmer......and I see that your son failed at MEPs but was told that a civilian test - if he passed - would qualify. My son had the same thing happen; however, he did go and pass the civilian test but still has to go back and test at MEPs on this Tuesday. They wouldn't accept the civilian test. Did you have to take some other route to get the civilian test accepted?

Hi Diane
My name is Barbara and I'm sort of a neighbor- I live in Coram. My son, Augie left for bc on 4/20/09. So far he's going subs. I hope all works out well for your son in SAR. Things have a way of working themselves out somehow. When does your son leave for bc? Well I just wanted to introduce myself - Hope to talk to you soon
