About me:
I am a middle school computer teacher. I have three children. Melissa is 30, is married and has 3 little girls. TJ is 22, my only son and my only sailor. Marci is 18 and just graduated from high school. TJ had his 21st birthday on April 12th, 2008 in his 4th week of boot camp! He graduated C school in Virginia Beach in March, 2009 and is now stationed in Jacksonville. I miss him but he totally loves what he is doing in the NAVY!
I am here to support or represent my:
Son/Daughter
Stage of (Sailor’s) Navy Career?
Enlisted
When I heard “Navy,” I:
Was concerned or afraid
From my experience with the Navy, the most important thing I learned was:
There is a time that you really need to let go. My son knew what he wanted and was destined to be in the Navy. Both his grandfathers were sailors. He has always loved water. He worked at a marina one summer. We have been in a boat and on the water at the lake every summer since he was little. He became a certified diver while living away from home. It is time to let go and encourage him in his endeavor.
Through this Navy experience, I now believe:
It was positive and maturing. Our relationship has grown stronger.

Tj graduated C school in Virginia Beach on Feb. 23, 2009. He has moved to Jacksonville, Florida, for his first official job duty.

TJ graduated A school in Pensacola on November 6 and is an official airman technician. He was 4th in his class. TJ is will move on as an airman technician. He will go to Oceana, Virginia for 3 months of training and now is stationed in Jacksonville, Florida for a couple of years.

Easter Sunday and my sailor son's 22nd birthday... April 12.

Twenty-two years ago today, April 12, 1987 at 10:37 p.m., was one of the most joyful moments of my life. My only son (now a sailor) TJ was born. He was a healthy 5 lbs. at delivery. Born a month early, he was a strong little guy and needed no special care. After his "male surgery" he was so upset. After 5 days in the hospital due to C-section, we brought him home weighing 4 lbs. 7 oz. He was just like holding a little doll, but so warm and cuddly. He had a healthy appetite, which has never left… Continue

One year anniversary since I handed my only son to the US Navy!

March 18, 2008 was a scary but exciting day for us. My only son, TJ, left for the Kansas City MEPS with his recruiter. I remember the short drive to the recruiting office. Little did I know that I could have driven him to Kansas City myself. We walked in at 8 a.m. TJ had befriended the recruiter and he was very helpful exercising and running with TJ so that he would make his BMI. TJ was 20 years old at the time and was ready to get away from home and be totally on his own. It was the best thing… Continue

Florida was a no go...

TJ did not get to make the drive from Jacksonville to Orlando to see us while we were there. He said he was stuck on the base because it is a new duty station. : (

Driving from C school to first duty station!

My son bought a car while in C school at Virginia Beach. He is driving right now as I am typing this from Virginia Beach to Jacksonville, Florida. He left at ten this morning and just called and is still driving! He has 100 miles to go yet. He was yawning while talking with me and it had rained the whole way. This is bitter sweet as his buddies all took leave to head home in between graduation and duty stations. TJ had to get his car to Jacksonville where he is suppose to work for two years. Goo… Continue

Thanksgiving--home two weeks and GONE!

Well it seemed like he was here for just a moment. TJ arrived on the 24th and spent the night with his dad. His sisters went to get him and then he was home for two sweet weeks. Everyone had a great time. We fattened him up and then he was leaving again. His housekeeping skills were better, but.... they were back to old ways while he was home. He did however apologize when I would walk into his room and it was a mess. He pulled all of his boxes out of his closet and went through clothes. He left… Continue

Dianne,
I have been so busy myself and have not been on in a few weeks. We had a wonderful weekend with him at graduation. He is in A school at Great Lakes and I am going up for a wedding near there Nov. 8th and will get to see him.
I have been meaning to call you. I rescued a couple of dogs several weeks ago and they got all over that book. They got it muddy. I put it somewhere and can't find it to find your address. I bought another book and want to send it to you. Could you please email your address to me so I can mail this one, before I get into another situation with dogs that messes the new one up? I feel really bad about it, but I felt so bad for those two dogs. They made a mess of my van too.
Let me know when you find out where he will be going.
Take care,
Stephanie

THE very best place to buy shrimp and other seafood to ship home is Joe Patti's seafood on Main Street. It in itself is a tourist attraction. I don't know if they will ship it. But before you leave town you can get it packed in a cooler so you can take it home. Dry Ice. My visiting realitives take home coolers full of shirmp all the time. Try the flounder or grouper too! Best fish ever.
On the base is the Naval Avation Museum. Oh my goodness. It is great. Plan on spending as much time there as possible. There is an IMAX theather showing the HISTORY OF FLIGHT. Try to see that! Did you know Pensacola was the first settlement in the United States? We have some very interesting museums in historic downtown Pensacola. All worth your time.
On Navy Blvd. there is a restruant called Chet's seafood. Great food, try the mullet. Mullet is a bottom feeding fish found along the Gulf Coast. It's best in this area of the Gulf Coast. Try the cheese grits with the mullet. YUM YUM! I'm getting hungry. If you get out to Perdido Key, located not far from the Base, try the Crab Shack. Tables right on the Gulf of Mexico.
Well, if you have any other questions, please ask. Otherwise, have a great time in Pensacola, Oh yea, spend lots of money! LOL.

I will remember, but I am sure I will still cry to see his hand writing. I am sure he will love the remainder of boot camp with all of those things to do.
Thanks again, and the phone is pasted to me. I went swimming the other day at the Y in Wichita. I put my phone inside two ziplock bags and kept it with me in the lazy river and in the pool. My daughter said I looked like a dork, but I didn't care.

Aw, I see. Thanks for the info on the phone. I will do that for sure. His graduation will be Sept. 5th. I will fly down on Sept. 4th and fly back on Sept. 8th. I am so excited that you are going to Florida. That will be awesome!!!!
