I am mother to Amber MacDonald who joined the Navy in January 09. I have been a Nurse for 8 years and I work in the ICU Department at Santa Paula Hospital and Ventura County Medical Center. Nursing is my second career. Got my nursing degree at the age of 38. And I am pretty proud of that. But I feel my greatest accomplishments are my kids. My daughter Amber is the enlisted one. I am so proud of Her.

When I heard “Navy,” I:
Was concerned or afraid
From my experience with the Navy, the most important thing I learned was:
when to let go.
Through this Navy experience, I now believe:
It was positive and maturing. Our relationship has grown stronger.

Hi Elda - How are things going with the wedding plans? Did they approve her chit yet for the wedding? I know that I have read stories of sailors having to change their wedding plans and it isn't easy for them or the parents who are supporting them and helping pay for the wedding. My nephew was suppose to be in a wedding last summer with one of his buddies, but their National Guard time in Iraq was extended 3 months and they had to cancel everything. I'm sorry that this has happened to Amber and her fiance as well as how it is affecting you. Pray all will work out in the end for all.

Hi Elda, How is Amber doing? Is she really getting married? Wonder if it someone that Katie knew before she left A school. Katie is about to arrive in Australia.

Wonderful! What ship will she be on? Has she already graduated from A school? I've gotton 2 phone calls from Katie and various e-mails. She is doing fine...making some friends. Right after she arrived in Sasebo she was flown to the Philippines to meet the Essex and then went on to Okinawa and then back to base. Katie leaves in a few weeks for Australia and ??

Katie is in Sasebo and will be flown out to the Essex on Wednesday. I'm sure she is excited. It was wonderful having her home for 2 weeks. I miss her already. Hope to get her address soon. I know she will like to receive written letters and packages. Asked for any articles are her favorite Detroit Tiger - Brandon Inge as well.

Glad to hear things are coming along for Amber. Katie did RAP duty with the recruitors while she was home...5 days of work for 5 free vacation days, basically. Katie's last day home is Friday. She reports to DTW airport at 0640 to fly to Chicago and then onto Japan and ultimately the USS Essex...which is out to sea.

How are Amber's classes going? Katie is home now. Doing RAP duty for 5 days at the recruitor's so she will use less vacation days. Katie leaves Saturday for the USS Essex.
