I am lucky, I got my son home for Thanksgiving. Haven't seen him since last Xmas. But he just told me he'll be deployed next year and be gone for both Thanksgiving and Xmas. I'd better enjoy him while I can!

When I heard “Navy,” I:
Was proud and encouraged it
From my experience with the Navy, the most important thing I learned was:
That the Navy does an excellent job during boot camp, finding the strengths of each recruit and steering them towards a Navy career that will be a better fit that what the recruit initially planned on.

Transportation advice for women traveling alone

My SAILOR had his PIR on 2/13 and I had a very tight schedule so researched all of my ground transportation options. While a rental car would have been the most economical (With my AAA card) I have never been to the area, was arriving at night and NOT used to icy roads!

I knew I'd be tired and wanted to arrive at the hotel quickly so I could attend a Navy Moms meet and greet...I caught a cab. I had researched the rates and route, it should have been a 40 minute drive at $45 - the driver assured… Continue

Hi gail. I got home on Wednesday and now I'm sicker than a dog. This sucks!!! i haven't been this sick in a long time!!! But anyway, Nick got a phone and he calls me like 4 or 5 times a day. I miss him alot still, but now that we can talk it's better. He said he might be on hold for 18 months. He also said that it's weird getting into a new routine. But he said he's doing good. i told him it's only been 2 days, it will take some time to get used to everything on a new base. And he agreed.

That will be nice if you pop in , for the meet and greet, have a drink and relax!!

I'll let you get going.

Dear Gail,
Are you going to the PIR (graduation) meet and greet for the parents, the night before.? It's nice, we went to ours. I met two moms that I was writing to.

Wait until you see Niles in his uniform. It'll take your breathe away!!!

Dress warm, Chicago is cold an it is windy!!!
Let me get going.
You take care and God bless.

Dear Gail,
Is your son graduating this Friday?
You joined the PIR for that date. How wonderful, Congratualions!!!

Niles will be in all black uniform. My Kim was white, that's the Spring and Summer color.

Let me share my tidbit information on graduation.

You will need a car.

1) Get to graduation early, like 7;30 AM. The security line is long. If you drive in, the car line is also long and the cars get inspected with the trunk and hood opened.

2) Bring photo ID, camera and tissues.

3) Bring a blank check. After graduation Niles will be picking up his Navy pictures. Our Sailors always give us the honors of paying for them.

4) Bring a dark towel or clothe for Niles to sit on. Those uniforms are to stay clean.

5) Bring some of his old civilian clothes. If Niles has the time to spend in the hotel room, he can be comfortable.

Have a safe trip. Please, let me know how it was.
Take care and God bless.

Dear Gail,
How are you doing? Thank you, but what are you congratulating me for? HAHA!!

How is Niles doing?
Where is he now?

My daughter KIm is in Virginia on the USS Normandy. The ship is docked, so she's doing odd jobs.
She was trained for reading the radar.

I hope to hear from you again.
Take care and God bless.
