WOW is right! It was an amazing experience. Loved getting to see Joyce and Tammy in person, what sweethearts. I'm feeling pretty good today, happy I have the day off from work. Going to take it easy and rest. :)

The Seattle weather for next weekend is predicting 77 on Friday and mid-high 70s for Saturday and Sunday and so far no rain. Keeping my fingers crossed! :) Looking very forward to meeting your Joyce! :) Have a safe trip and big hugs back at ya. I'...

Hi Shannon, sorry the socks you bought didn't work out. The socks that I wear are very thin. I hope you are able to get it figured out by the time your walk comes. Make sure you have your moleskin with you so.

Hi Shannon. The socks are called "Wright Socks" and are layered socks. They are one pair of socks that are already made with two layers so they rub together as you walk keeping the friction off your feet. I have been wearing them and they are actu...

Help me reach my goal for the Seattle Breast Cancer 3-Day!

I am a Navy veteran and I now work for the Navy as a civilian. My husband is retired Navy. We are so excited for George to begin his Navy adventure. Both of us know how great it will be and how many doors it will open for him.
I am here to support or represent my:
George
Stage of (Sailor’s) Navy Career?
Enlisted
When I heard “Navy,” I:
Was proud
From my experience with the Navy, the most important thing I learned was:
It was much different viewing it from the perspective as a mother instead of a wife or as the person in the Navy. I have to let go and let him be a man, an adult. It is a difficult transition but so worth the experience. I look forward to every phone call, every letter, every email... I love being a Navy Mom!
Through this Navy experience, I now believe:
Our relationship has grown stronger

"Leadership must be based on goodwill. Goodwill does not mean posturing and, least of all, pandering to the mob. It means obvious and wholehearted commitment to helping followers. We are tired of leaders we fear, tired of leaders we love, and tired of leaders who let us take liberties with them. What we need for leaders are men of the heart who are so helpful that they, in effect, do away with the need of their jobs. But leaders like that are never out of a job and never out of followers. Strange as it sounds, great leaders gain authority by giving it away."

Admiral James B. Stockdale

George graduated from Basic Training on 11 July 2008. It was a fantastic day and a wonderful weekend spent with him. He is a wonderful man who I am so proud to call my son. I could not stop staring at him and observing all the subtle and some not so subtle changes that have happened since he left home. His girlfriend was going through the same sort of feelings as I was. We were in awe of his manners, his change of attitude to one of recognizing that life is not to be taken for granted, and the fact that he now understands how good he had it when he was at home. He even told his sister to cherish her senior year because life changed fast afterwards. Wow!

George graduated GSM A school and received orders to the USS STOCKDALE (DDG 106)

Thank you anyway Gigi, Mary my DIL said one of the other wives in Bremerton told her that AJ will hate the CT because it isn't his real sub so the other sailors will be mean to him, because that is what happened to her husband. I told Mary not to worry, AJ's been through that his whole life and not everyone is the same.

Hi Gigi,
Do you know of anyone with sailors on the USS Connecticut? The reason I'm asking is, AJ's home sub is the USS Seawolf but because of them being in home port for 2 1/2 yrs, they are switching him to the Connecticut. I tried to find a group but had not success. However, his home sub will always be the Wolf.

Going to tour the ship tommarrow -- it will be the first time I have been on a destroyer :) I have been wondering how you have been --thought maybe you took some time off from N4M. Hows George & new wife doing ? Is she with him down in the SD area ?

Nice to meet you Gigi! No I didn't get to go out to San Diego in April. Was sidelined with a hysterectomy (in April) and just now getting back in the swing of things. My son Luke is a cook out in San Diego. Did your son come out of Great Lakes? I wonder if they know each other? It's nice to find someone else who is assigned to the Stockdale. Hope we get a group of moms and sailors together. Thanks for joining the group! Karen
