Stage of (Sailor’s) Navy Career?

When I heard “Navy,” I:
Was concerned or afraid, Said “No way!”
From my experience with the Navy, the most important thing I learned was:
To have a lot of Kleenex ready!!
Through this Navy experience, I now believe:
This was a maturing experience
10-17-08 I got a letter from my girl today!! She says its the easist thing shes ever done, 3 square meals a day, not so comfy beds and itchy blankets. Cant wait to see her!!!!

10-18-08 I got my grad pack!! Cant wait to get there!!

10-23-08 I got another letter! Jamie sounds so upbeat! Said shes all better now, the med they gave her made her pass out and when she was awake she was in a complete daze. She cant recall what happens day to day, because they are going fast and running together! Shes section leader and likes it except for the extra workouts she gets when something goes wrong. Then she got "gushy" and made me cry! I miss her so much!! Only 3 more weeks!!

10-26-08 Jamie called me!! I was in Walmart shopping and me and my oldest daughter stopped in the frozen food section and cried the whole time we talked to her. She sounds good and seems to really like it! Shes section leader and said she gets yelled at all the time! I miss her so much it was so good to hear her voice!! Is it time to head to GL yet??

10-30-08 I got 2 letters from Jamie! She was nominated for an award and had to be inspected by a group of Chiefs, based on appearence, grooming, knowledge, honesty, and military bearing. Out of 14 DIV, 28 recruits are chosen for this. I cant wait to find out how she did!! She also got a Bravo Zulu for helping the inspector during a zone inspection, she had to write down hits(not sure what all that means, but she said it brought the her DIV score up!! I'm so proud of her! Less than 2 wks now and I see my girl!! Cant wait!

Gina, I was anxious to get a response back to you and congratulate Jamie on earning Honor Graduate. From what I've read, I believe sailors who do well in school are more likely to get the duty assignment they asked for. It proved to be true in Billy's case. He also made Honor Graduate in A-School and had done very well throughout all of his other classes. He requested a destroyer in S.D. and that's just what they gave him. So, congratulations to Jamie for all her hard work and efforts. I know you are very proud!! Billy's soon to be ship the USS Howard is a part of the Ronald Reagan Carrier Support Group 7. So, when the Reagan goes out for a deployment (short or long), Billy's ship along with several others will also go out. The support group is there to give protection to the carrier. They are deployed right now and just made a stop for several days of liberty in Singapore. They are expected back in S.D. around Oct. There is a young lady who is an SK on the Reagan that I've known since she was in Preschool. Jamie will enjoy S.D. There is so much to see and do. It's quite impressive to go there and see all the Naval ships. I took several pictures of the Reagan and the Nimitz when I was there Mother's Day weekend.

I would worry about her making the drive back to G.L. also. I did the same as you as far as getting the vehicle maintenanced. It's funny even though our kids are grown and off on their own, we will never stop being mothers and stepping in to help in whatever way we can.

Also, I'm so glad Jamie is getting a C-School (ILARKS). Having that training will make her more valuable when she gets to her ship.

I'll be hoping you get to see her soon. Hope you all have a great 4th of July also. Mine will be bitter sweet having Billy home along with his sailor buddy. We have a big B-B-Q planned. This time last year I was really down because Billy was leaving for bootcamp on July 7th. So, as you can imagine, I am much more excited and upbeat for this year's celebration.
Thank you for filling me in on how Jamie is doing. I'm very excited for her!!!

Hi Gina,
I hope you had a Happy Birthday yesterday!! I'm sure you would have liked to have Jamie there with you to help celebrate. I hope everything is going well for her in school. Have they started discussing orders with her yet. I read in some of your messages where you mentioned Jamie would like San Diego for a duty station. Billy really loves it there. He'll finish his 2nd C-School 7-21 then gets a couple of weeks off before he starts the 3rd class. He's coming home for the 4th of July weekend and bringing another sailor buddy who he went thru bootcamp and A-School with. This young man is also an IC and has some of the same schools as Billy before heading off for a cruiser in Norfolk. He's from PA, so going to AZ may be a bit different from what he is use to.

Take care! It will be fun to hear from you whenever you have the time.

Hi Gina,
Thank you for the message. I'm glad you are doing well except for having to work so hard. Marie was so kind to respond to me right away and put my mind at ease to know everything was alright.
I'm sorry that Jamie is stuck on hold. There's been alot of issues with these IC classes being full. Billy's hold was in the beginning right after BC and lasted 6 weeks, but once he started, he went from SCC to ATT to A-School with no delays. The systems all crazy and hard to understand sometimes. Billy is about half way through A-School and is hoping to finish by the end of this month. He's suppose to put in his request for his orders next week I think. But, apparently there is a backlog with that too. He wants out of GL so bad he can taste it!!
Thank you for taking the time to check in with me. I know now not to be so quick to worry.
Take Care,
Paige
