I am in the same place, trying to figure out a fun good gift for Christmas. He has a laptop, and pretty sure he has an Ipod. Really at a loss, can't sent a sweater to Guam (haha). What is everyone else doing?

Kaye, you made me cry. This will be my first holiday ever without him home. Before he went in the Navy, he had been to camp for a week, but that was the only time he had not been home ever. I haven't even been able to say he won't be home without ...

I know that is what the prices are when we buy tickets to see our sailors, but don't the airlines give the boys some kind of discount if they are the ones doing the traveling? Maybe the ombudsman would have some answers to this or the recruiters.

Thanks everyone. My son is in Guam (USS Buffalo), but I have been reading this group of or a couple of weeks, and see that it is one of the more active ones, so will continue to do so. Again, thank everyone and God Bless.

Help for some info! My son doesn't know what his Navy email address is. Does anyone know how he or I can find out what it is, don't want him to deploy without knowing, because we think that is the only email they can use on the sub. Thank you

Hi JP, I tried looking for the USS Buffalo's website but I don't think they have one due to security reasons. Your son should be able to get that info from his COC. I just noticed your comment below. Enlisted personnel earn 2.5 days of leave per month. My daughter is in Hawaii and she comes home at least once a year. She's been in Hawaii for nearly 3 years and she's been home twice so far and will be coming home for New Years. I've also met her in Sam Diego twice and I've went to Hawaii twice this year. I hear Guam is beautiful.

My son is now in Guam. He calleld from Hawaii yesterday when he was in route. I know he is busy getting settled in so I'll probably hear from him again in a couple of days. He had been home after finishing training in Grotten, so this is his first assignment. The hardest thoughts are that you don't have any idea how long assignments are--and reading comments from other moms that they haven't seen their son/daughter for up to 3 years

JP, Alex really likes Guam. I mean, he's far from home and lonely, but he's fine. Now, like everywhere else in the world, there are place and areas that are not so nice and our boys should stay away from, but you have that anywhere. Tell you what, why don't you send me an e-mail and we can talk a little more privately. My e-mail address is Pattycakes62962@aol.com. I'd be happy to talk to you about stuff.

Oh, boy......I know how you feel!!! And it gets harder each day, not easier. That's why we are all here for each other. I've found alot of comfort talking to the moms on this website, so you need to come here often!!! Keep in touch. Maybe our boys will get to know each other.

I meant to tell you, depending on the PHASE your son is on, he can have leave the base overnight (weekends) on Phase 3 as long as he doesn't have duty. On Phase 2 he can leave during the day (weekends) & will have a curfew till I believe midnight, again as long as he doesn't have duty.

He should get leave once he's finished with school before reporting to his first duty station.

Hi & welcome to Navy for Mom's:)) You will find a lot of answers, support and encouragement here. My daughter, Ashley (20), has been in the Navy for 2 years and is an IT3 & my son Tim (19) has been in since Feb 2008 stationed on the USS Nimitz.. What is your son/daughter doing with the Navy? If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. I'm glad you joined and look forward to hearing more about you & your Sailor. Pat
