OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

A little about me:
Married over 30 years, my husband and I always shared the same priorities--top of list, always, were our children. Every single day since becoming parents, we shared our son and daughter's childhood with them. The time, magic, hope, dreams, discussions, excursions and adventures we shared together as a family, were the most important and incredible years we experienced, and both my husband and I knew how lucky we were and appreciated those years as very special gifts to our own lives.
Our daughter, an extraordinary young woman, is now an 8th grade math teacher at a school, in a district, that reinforces everything wonderful she believed about education and the people who chose the same path she did. She is also the junior varsity volleyball coach for the high school girls team.
Our son (and his wife) explored a different path. Different from every future he considered throughout public school and college. After graduating with a degree in political science, our son knew he wanted to do something for our country and determined that the first thing he should consider was to literally serve the country. He enlisted in the Navy, graduated from the nuclear program, recently attended and achieved graduation from OCS, and received his commission in Aviation. He is now training to become a pilot.
He is accurately, in the lyrics of Jimmy Buffett, "The Son of a Son of a Sailor." His paternal grandfather also served in the Navy. He would have been so proud.

The Navy offers opportunities that...
It has been very difficult to retain the close relationship we once enjoyed with our son. He is dedicated to his life in the Navy, which of course has included a lot of hard work, study and fitness. He married his college sweetheart and enjoys any time they find to share together. I have lupus and other immune problems and rely on a service dog. Travel for us is a little more complicated but we would be proud and delighted to visit him anywhere!
Our Navy experience so far...
It was positive and maturing. Our relationship has grown stronger.

"This Is What Lupus Looks Like" video by L.A. Lupus Lady

Recently a Facebook-Twitter friend contacted me about participating in a lupus video she was putting together. I was honored to be asked, and sent her the requested pictures of myself with my service dog, Elliot. Please enjoy the video and pass it along to your friends. Thank you, Jason the Argonaut. P.S. Also, if there is a group for sisters about the same age as the sailors who chose a different road, but are still very supportive!

If there are any other moms of married sailors - I would sure like to connect! Especially if they are in the earlier stages of marriage and uncomfortable with including mom and wife.

Thank you.
