Hey, everything is great here. Never feel bad if there is a lapse of time between our "talks"! This is a virtual community and it's always great to connect, whenever! Glad the graduation went well. I grew up in Chicago, so I understand the cold he's dealing with. The nice thing is that the weather can be variable - next week there could be weather in the 40-50's... Kind of freaky. Garrett is still in San Diego! I went to visit him in Dec. and I love the city. It is a big city, without the intensity of Chicago. Lots of cool things to see and do. I great place for your son. Garrett will be leaving there soon, so I don't think our boys' time there will overlap. He's on hold for deployment to the fleet. His first time out there. He's excited and I am too. We just hope he'll have time to drive his car back here to the East Coast for us to store it for him while he's in Japan. We'll stay in touch! Beth

Hello and welcome to N4M’s!
We’re so glad you’ve joined us! My name is Michelle (The Admin), but you can call me Elle. Just stopping by with a late welcome! To help you get started, I’d like to share some of our community’s “Do’s and Dont’s”. Please click here and read them because yes, they are enforced. With that said, I hope you enjoy your time here, and if you have any questions/comments/concerns – send them my way! ☺
Sincerely, Elle

Dear Jo: I saw the post you added yesterday I think.... My son is NOT a sonar tech, but he relies on sonar in the helicopters to do his job as air crew. Garrett has been stationed in San Diego since last spring. I have pictures taken from a distance of a sonar tech working on a helicopter in the hangar! He's leaving before your son will get there. The reason I am writing is because of the connection - sonar. And, I spent five wonderful days out there with Garrett when he got his wings. I had been to SD twice before, but this time with the new perspective as a Navy mom. Garrett was stationed on North Island. Even if your son doesn't have a car, there are so many things to do on his time off that a $20 cab ride will get him to. We saw the USS Midway - military gets in free. There is a great movied theater on base - free. Most restaurants and even the comedy club gave discounts for military. I grew up in a larger city, yet, SD is big enough w/o the traffic jams. I think your son, Kristopher, will enjoy his time out there. God bless him and your family as you travel to his graduation in Chicago! Jan 15 is when he's done? That's the day my daughter signs a contract to join the Marines! Big day to celebrate. Glad you found N4Ms. The women you meet will become true friends. Beth

Hi and Welcome to N4M. We are proud to have you aboard. Please look on the Events For Blue Candle Lighting. We are lighting blue candles on Christmas day to remember our sons, daughters and spouses who will not be home for the holidays. Some of our children will be home but we wanted to make sure we remember the ones on duty and their families. Please RSVP as if your are attending because it counts. All you have to do is light a blue candle in your home on Christmas day and you will have participated. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Stage of (Sailor’s) Navy Career?
Enlisted
When I heard “Navy,” I:
Was proud, Encouraged him/her
From my experience with the Navy, the most important thing I learned was:
I have learned that time is very vaulable and that I miss my son more than I ever thought possible. I feel like I have learned alot about him through our letters and have really enjoyed writting and recieving them. I can tell that he is going to be a great man. A great Sailor. I look at all military different now and have a new respect for them and their families.
Through this Navy experience, I now believe:
Our relationship has grown stronger, This was a maturing experience, The Navy has a lot to offer, This was the best decision he/she could have made

Thanks to everyone who has responded to my blog. Kris did not get to call on Christmas day which made it a very sad day. We did get to hear from him on Monday after though. He sounded good but is really ready to be done with this part. Being away for the holidays has really been hard on him, and us. We will have a week in Great Lakes with him before he has to be in San Diego for A school. He will be training for sonar tech. I do not know alot about that so if anyone does I would love to learn an… Continue
