John is an Airman in Washington St. He works on the aircraft but he's recently had that popular eye surgery Lasix I think its called so hopefully he will be learning to fly soon. That would be great but frightening at the same time. Good luck to all

Hi & welcome to Navy for Mom's:)) You will find a lot of answers, support and encouragement here. My daughter, Ashley (20), has been in the Navy for 2 years and is an IT3 & my son Tim (19) has been in since Feb 2008 stationed on the USS Nimitz. What is your son doing with the Navy? If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. I'm glad you joined and look forward to hearing more about you & your Sailor. Pat

About me:
My son joined the Navy 4 years ago at the age of 18 and I cried my eyes out. I haven't seen him in a year and a half and it will probably be a while before I get to see him. I do talk to him alot on the phone but I miss seeing his face. He is an airman in washington st. and has recently put in orders, 3 close to home and 1 for Hawaii. I am praying he gets the orders close to home, only an hour and a half away.
He is going to re-enlist because jobs are hard to find and I'm not real happy about it but he loves his job.
My heart broke when he joined but he did discuss it with my husband and me. He said if I didn't want him to join then he wouldn't but he really wanted to see the world and the job he had lined up was one he really wanted. It was hard but I gave him my blessing because it is his life and he has a right to do what he dreams of doing. My Navy Airman son is my life and I'm very proud of him.
I am here to support or represent my:

When I heard “Navy,” I:
Was proud and encouraged it
From my experience with the Navy, the most important thing I learned was:
I have learned that my son is a strong proud young man. He is proud of what he does and he is learning to be a very wonderful, honest, dependable person. He is loyal to his job and loves what he does. I just wish he could come home more often. The Navy has made his life better and very productive. He is learning things he could never have learned if he had stayed home. I am proud of our military.
Through this Navy experience, I now believe:
It was positive and maturing. Our relationship has grown stronger.
