Yes Melissa, it's interesting that the phase levels are different on the Point Loma base. He was phase 2 which allowed him civilian leave in Great Lakes but he's not to phase 2 yet in SD. He was already working towards that this weekend. I've talk...

Matt is doing just that. He's hopeful to leave there as a 3rd Class Petty Officer. If he has to stay there, he's going to take as many classes as possible. Thanks for the insight Melissa.

From what I can tell, even though my Matt is in sub school now, there is a chance he will be on hold before his A school too. I think we are always going to be surprised by what happens next. LOL.

Joline,

DJ sounded disappointed also about being put on hold. He is very anxious to get his schooling started so he can come home for 14 days. Please keep me posted.

Joline,

Thank you so much for the information about "A" school. At least you got to spend time with your son after graduation instead of him going straight to San Diego. I am sure that was a surprise!!! What division was Matt in? I know that DJ is very anxious to leave for San Diego and I have not talked to him today yet. I know there is not a lot they can tell us about their jobs either, but I cannot wait to visit him in San Diego. I do know he has a lot more liberty now that boot camp is over and he is happy about that.

I received pictures in the mail today!!!!! The division picture is very good of the whole group. Ryan is "AM" and going to Florida right after (grad and go)... can't believe it is here already. These two months went by fairly quickly don't you agree?

Hi Joline, Nice to meet you. My son is also Matt. His venture as STG has been a little different. Matt started in GL of ATT (basic training for STG) that was about 4 weeks. Then he was on hold for a few weeks, then finally off to SD. Where he was on hold again this time for a few months. Finally he started A-school. I have no idea what A-school is about as far as studies. He wouldn't give me any info. other then a lot of Math.(thats a Navy thing) That lasted about 6 wks. give or take. With all the holding Matt had I'm really not sure about the time frame. He has been in the Navy for One year and two months and he is still in school. Most don't take that long. He is now in C-school. Which he tells me will take him until mid-June, then opps. He is looking to be in school until around Aug. Some STG don't go to C-school I believe it depends on there testing scores. Some will go right to fleight after A-school. If your son is a grad-n-go they must have a class starting up right away. So thats a good thing. As far as class time. Matt had school both night and day. Day classes went 7 to 3 then back for study from 5 to 6. With lunch breaks. Weekends off. Unless they had guard duty. Night classes were 3 to 11, with dinner brake. I'm sure they have study time in there somewhere. If they score below an 80 on their test they have mantiory study. But Matt away went to study. He figuard that is what he was there for so he studied ever chance he got. They can't take there books out of the class so all work and studies is in one building. Okay I rambled enough.

So if you plan a trip, go on the weekend or holiday time. They do get holidays off. Matt did have a week off between A and C school. But that isn't alway true for everyone. Sad to say time will very for every sailor. Classes start different times, some are on hold until a class opens up. Your son will know his schedule better then anyone. Keep in touch.

Thank you Joline! I will call the recruiter on Monday. I've also gotten some great tips on BootCampMoms group here on NfM. Printing up address and return labels was one idea I thought was brilliant! One mom sent an elastic so her son could keep the letters bundled up and pass inspections easier. It's been a great resource!
