About me:
41 yo mother of four. 2 stepdaughters, 1 son and 1 daughter soon to be grandma for the first time. My youngest just graduated high school and so now I am pursuing my life-long dream of becoming a flight attendant. I have a wonderful family and a lot of support from my community.
I am here to support or represent my:
Jaryd
Stage of (Sailor’s) Navy Career?
Enlisted
When I heard “Navy,” I:
Was concerned or afraid, Needed to learn more about it, Was proud, Encouraged him/her
From my experience with the Navy, the most important thing I learned was:
Its time to cut the umbilical chord...my son is a mature adult and he is going to make his own decisions and that I need to support his decisions. I am very proud of whom he has become and is becoming.
Through this Navy experience, I now believe:
This was a maturing experience, The Navy has a lot to offer, This was the best decision he/she could have made

Hi Everyone! 10 days and counting...I can barely stand it! I'm wondering if anyone knows what time the actual ceremony starts on the 1st and what time my son will need to report back to base that evening. He unfortunately is heading right to Pensacola on Saturday so we only get a few hours with him, but I'm wondering how early the ceremony is. I think I saw 10 or 11 a.m somewhere.

Hi Joni, thanks for the info, i finally heard from Charrell, she said school will start 9/5, or 9/8; but the address is the same but i didn't get the NATTC with the last name, she said AR,last name, first name and so on..., she asking me to come this weekend. But i told her to wait till she see what's going on first and maybe next weekend (labor day weekend) i just mail her cell phone to her.

He didn't seem to mind being on hold too much - enjoyed the freedom - quite a change from boot camp. Had his phone and lap top practically from the time he got there. He did tell me that the recent AC graduates are now waiting about 2 weeks before they get their orders, however, previous classes had their orders when they graduated. My son is scheduled to graduate A school in early November, but don't know when he will actually leave Pensacola. Hope some of this was helpful - I couldn't find any information about Air Traffic Control when he first got down there so I thought I share the little bit I have learned. Good Luck to You and Your Sailor. Laurie V.

Joni, my son's PIR was 5/30/08 and he was grad n go to Pensacola that same day. He is there for AC also and didn't start his A School until 7/18/08. Was on hold all that time - don't know what the hold up was. They were assigned to different duties while they were on hold - part of the time he had office duty and part of the time he had cleaning and that type of duty also had/has watch duty one weekend a month. What I have found out since he started classes is that there are only 12 in his class - two are marines - he likes it a lot. The are tested weekly and they are told only their scores not what was missed. The way they choose their first duty station is that close to the end of the class the instructors bring a list of the available slots to the class and starting with the highest scorer they pick where they want to go - so of course the higher their score the more choices they have

She's doing good. One of her roommates is a friend that she made at BC. She said it like a resort compared to BC:-) I guess she's finished all her inital classes and is now waiting to start the air traffic controller classes. We had thought that she might be home for a short visit around Dec 2 but she said that she might be there 2+ months longer than originally thought since classes may not start right away. Are you hearing anything similar?

Hi Joni,
My daughter is also in Pensicola for Air Traffic Control. She arrived there on 7/30. She's waiting to class up so I'm guessing that she and Jayd will be in class together. Where is he wating go for his permanent party?

He is excited for battlestations as well and moreso excited to see all of us and to share all this with us @ PIR. He mentioned that got promoted one of 5 recruits in his division so he's very proud...I am as well! Where is nick going for "A school"? I'm glad he's doing well and I like you look forward 2 holding/hugging my son but I know its also going to be very emotional!
