About me:

I raised my son to become a home-town, country loving and a God-fearing man. He is committed to high ideals and values like diligence, family, courage, and other values. As for me, I am employed full-time as a Social Services Worker and I host a product marketing website at SagePro CyberSource. I am a college graduate and have always tried to be a decent and wholesome person. I am also a grandmother and I find much joy in having this title. I am just proud of my son for being the third generation military man in the family. My father and two brothers are veterans. And my wonderful sailor has also joined the ranks to protect his country. I pray that our military stay as the best in the world, because we all will benefit from the labor and diligence of those who have taken the vow to protect this wonderful country. Remember this military slogan "Freedom is Not Free.".

I am here to support or represent my:

When I heard “Navy,” I:
Was concerned or afraid
From my experience with the Navy, the most important thing I learned was:

I learned how important Maritime services are and that the world is predominently covered by water. I learned that it is extremely important to have soldiers trained, and the Navy is at the fore front, armed and ready to protect our waters at all times. Go Navy Go! I have been researching about Navy history, Navy demographics, the future of the Navy, maritime military branches. I learned that there is a civilian group where I can volunteer to help educate the public about the Naval branches of the military. I also learned about the civilian Navy League of the United States. I learned to be very proud of the tradition of the sailors and especially proud of my son's decision to join the Navy.

Through this Navy experience, I now believe:
It was positive and maturing. Our relationship has grown stronger.

Seafair has been an annual event in Seattle since 1950. This event showcases the U.S. Navy Blue Angels-- The demonstration pilots fly the jets to each show site. The F/A-18 can reach speeds just under Mach 2, almost twice the speed of sound or about 1,400 MPH. Did You Know? The only Blue Angel to become an astronaut was CDR Chuck Bradley, Flight Surgeon, 1989-90.

Book of Interest

C-Span's BookTV segment interviewed a former Navy Seal recanting his experiences of becoming a Navy Seal and his experiences of fighting in Afghanistan and Iraq. He stated that the fighting was the most difficult in Afghanistan. He wrote a book while he was recuperating in the hospital. The sailor is Marcus Luttrell, the Book:"Lone Survivor Eyewitness Account of ..."

Training video of the next vehicle I plan to own. It is the Can-Am Spyder. It has two wheels in the front and a third wheel in the back. I have road a motorcycle only two times in the past. I loved it so much, I have been promising myself the last three years to purchase one. But now that I have discovered the Can-Am Spyder, I am ready to get in the wind. And the only thing holding me back at the moment is the possibility of having a monthly vehicle payment! I saw one on the street the other day, the rider looked a little perturbed at all the attention the vehicle was generating.

Hi Joyce, How are you and your family doing? You have a very handsome son and a beautiful family. I know how hard it is having a child away from home and even harder to have one in the military. We are all very proud of all of our sailors and appreciate the work they do to keep all of us safe and free. Please thank your son for his service. Godspeed to him.

Take care and have a wonderful rest of the week.

Hi Joyce, Stephen hardly ever has time to talk to me either. He is either busy with class, watch, duty, playing his computer or bonding with his roommates. I know he is liking it in the Navy. Homesick just a little. He told me he will not be coming home for Christmas. He says he is going to stay up at Great Lakes. It sure is hard to cut the apron string. Though, I did turn his room into a den 2 weeks ago.

He is struggling with school. He says it is really hard.

I hope you enjoyed your son's PIR??

His picture looks good!!

Joyce,
I'm sorry we didn't connect at PIR. It was so overwhelming, I'm still at a loss to describe the experience. I can't talk about it yet, without breaking down. But I wanted to tell you that my son, Thomas, loves your son, Marvin. The second night we were there, I pulled out my list of sailor sons and asked if he knew any of them. Immediately, he said, "this guy, Holland.... Ma, he wouldn't let anybody mess with me...said to me, I got your back." I think that's a connection that will stay with him all his life.
You've raised quite a man, Joyce, he has a profound sense of fairness and integrity. I expect to be reading about him in the future. Let's stay in touch.
Janet

Hooray ! I Finally Sent the "Care Package" Box

It took me a couple of months, before I actually sent that "Care Package" box to my son.
It was very tough for me to finally put that “Care Package” together and send to my son!
It’s not just called a “Care Package” because of the items placed in the box.

Many years of memories, good and bad, struggles and triumphs, are also placed in that box.
I discovered that it’s called a “Care Package” because my memories were, at that moment being placed in that box, past, present and future. It was also… Continue

Care Packages

Hello

I am preparing to send my son his first Care Package, and I was a little worried about mail delivery time.
Anyone have experience sending care packages, as far as time of arrival of the package to the sailor, please share your experience.
