Band of Brothers Hero

For those who may have missed it...

One of the "Band of Brothers" soldiers died on June 17, 2009.

We're hearing a lot today about big splashy memorial services. I want a nationwide memorial service for Darrell "Shifty" Powers.

Shifty volunteered for the airborne in WWII and served with Easy Company of the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, part of the 101st Airborne Infantry. If you've seen Band of Brothers on HBO or the History Channel, you know Shifty. His character a… Continue

Sorry is NOT the hardest word... The hardest word is goodbye!

My sailor came home for a week. We bought his car and he was delivering it to us. It was wonderful having him home, as it ALWAYS is. But the week passes too quickly every time and I swear it passes ever faster each time he comes home.

We spent a lot of time together. Mostly we talk about old times and laugh. Because of his rating, he can't really talk about his job. But he talks about his apt., his cats, his friends...

He told us this time that he forgot how loud it can get here, when everyone… Continue

RIP Ed Freeman ~ Bravo Zulu

You're an 19 year old kid. You're critically wounded, and dying in the jungle in the Ia Drang Valley , 11-14-1965, LZ X-ray, Vietnam . Your infantry unit is outnumbered 8 - 1, and the enemy fire is so intense, from 100 or 200 yards away, that your own Infantry Commander has ordered the MediVac helicopters to stop coming in.

You're lying there, listening to the enemy machine guns, and you know you're not getting out. Your family is half-way around the world, 12,000 miles away, and you'll never s… Continue

You just go to settings on your page and it gives you gobs of options for backgrounds. I personally downloaded some sewing material that I scanned on my scanner. By the Way, your son is an inspiration. Talk about shooting for the stars. Good for him! And great to meet you!!!

Karen, I am sooo sorry about your mom!!!
I am real happy that you get to go with us Saturday!!!!!!!
We have four from this area going and one from Dayton we were going to pick up!! Let me check into seeing if someone else can drive also!! Can you? We were planning on meeting at the Market Basket at the corner of HWY 105 and 96/69 about 7:15 - 7:30 Saturday morning. Is that ok with you? I bet the mom from Dayton can drive and someone can ride with her and we can follow each other.
