About me:
I am the mother of 3 awesome kids. My youngest daughter is 10, the oldest girl is 16 and my 18 year old son will be leaving soon. When he first told me he wanted to join (after he had been accepted to college!) I cried my eyes out all night long. And, then again the day he went to take his test. Of course I came to terms with it all but it was hard for me. I am very proud of his decision and very impressed with his thoughts and plans concerning it all.
I am here to support or represent my:
Child/Stepchild
Stage of (Sailor’s) Navy Career?

When I heard “Navy,” I:
Was concerned or afraid
Through this Navy experience, I now believe:
It was positive and maturing. Our relationship has grown stronger.

Just on a hunch I decided to check the mail alittle early today and I was so excited to find the form letter with just a few sentences from my son JR and his address. Needless to say I went to the post office to day and sent all of our letters that we have written so far!! I sent one of them express so it would be there in 2 days just so he would get something. I certainly hope that these weeks do go by quickly tho'. God Bless all of you and your families!!!! Thanks for the stories and the comfo… Continue

Well, my son left on Tuesday for Syracuse and then to GL. I was so angry that the weather was so bad on Wednesday that we couldn't make the trip for his swearing in. We were all so looking forward to it. Instead we pretty much paced around the phone waiting for phone calls from him. Don't mind saying that I was so relieved when he called just before they boarded and said he had made a friend. Then of course we very impatiently waiting for the call that he was there. He had never flown before and… Continue

Well, my son is on his way to boot camp tomarrow. Leaving him today was the hardest thing as you all know. Tonight made it even worse when he texted me and said he felt really sick, he was freezing and he head was pounding and there was nothing I could do to help. Knowing that we raised an awesome, self reliant intelligent young man didnt matter, only that when he was sick I couldnt help him. Continue

Karen, I just found this site today, I am so upset I did not know this site was around sooner! My son was in Div 110 as well! We were unable to make PIR. My father did make it however, how was it?

My son is now at Lackland, I miss him so much!

Congrats on your new Sailor Karen. So happy that you got to see the graduation and spend some time with Jr.Bootcamp down now on to A school. Where is Jr going to A school? I'm glad he talked to the boys this weekend Dan was just saying the other day how much he enjoyed his time at Lackland. He said the freedom and beautiful weather where so great after being in bootcamp in Chicago that it made him really appreciate it more. Think he was a little homesick this weekend. Again I really happy for you all and so thankful you had a safe trip. Donna

Karen I sent my son one pair of clear contacts just this Friday, so that he can have them for PIR. And I know he suppose to call tomorrow.

Karen, Would love the website, and of course you aren't overstepping your bounds. Us Navy moms have to stick together through all of this.
I see you have PIR coming up in a couple of weeks good luck. They do battlestations the last week before PIR, my son did his the night before and I didn't get the news he passed until we were already in Chicago...pretty nerve wracking, spending all that money and not knowing if he passed.

We printed out a boot camp schedule from www.navy.com/about/during/bootcamp When Drew called 1/28 I told him we were following along with this schedule and he asked me to send him a copy! They are not told about anything! He had no idea what was next. According to this (don't hold me to it!) they are week 6 shipboard damage control and firefighting. Next week would be Battle Stations (boot camp's ultimate test). 12 different scenarios incorporating what they have learned during the previous weeks. The teams will be graded on their ability to execute required tasks. That is all a direct quote from my print-out! The week of 2/23 would be considered (week 8) Graduation week. As I said, this is just my going by the web site. I'm sure some of this is changed according to the RDC's. Hope that helped a little! Libby

Karen, my son just graduated from boot camp 1/30. The time goes by really fast. And believe it or not these kids can actually write letters-snail mail- and do. Wait until you get your first letter-what a treasure! Hang in there.

Karen,
Glad to hear from you. Whenever you have questions, don't hesitate to ask. It is hard I know, seems like yesterday for us sometimes but its been over 2 years now. If you want to get together sometime to talk, just holler!

Karen,
Thanks so much!! I can't wait for PIR! It seems like time can't tick by fast enough. All I have gotten so far is the form letter from my son, but I was so happy to have that! Can't wait for the real letter.
