About me:
I work in the post-secondary school system overseeing the student information system. I have 2 sons and 3 grandchildren. My oldest son, Jeff is a MM stationed in Groton, CT and my youngest son, Shea is a Surgical Technologist . I am very proud of both my boys.

Thinking about joining
When I heard “Navy,” I:
Was concerned or afraid
From my experience with the Navy, the most important thing I learned was:
You must be flexable, plans change without notice.
Through this Navy experience, I now believe:
It was positive and maturing. Our relationship has grown stronger.

Karen,

Just a quick note. How are you?

I'm doing great- trying to pace myself as I get in a hell-fre hurry to fix and complete everything that I couldn't get to when I was in school.

I ran into a friend of mine yesterday at an arts and crafts show. She looked marvelous. What I didn't know was that she retired last year from teaching high school! She looked 10 years younger - and she has went back to doing things (like making baskets) that she hasn't done in years because she was consumed with school.
Don't get me wrong- I dearly love my job and my school - but it gives me hope that I won't go crazy when the time comes for me to retire.
Take care and have a great summer!

Karen- Hi! How are you? My son Josh is stationed with a squadron out at NAS Lemoore. They will be riding out on the Nimitz later this year for deployment.
Great to meet another ham. I've not been in it for months. Too busy at work. I miss it. Will get back in it this summer.

Karen, I heard from, Sean over the weekend, he sounds sooo much better. He mentioned working hard to get his qualifications out of the way. He said that once that is done he will actually get to do his job, and he knows that once that is out of the way, it would be less stressful for him. He did mention about going to medical to get his leg checked out once they get back, Im not sure if it is any better or not, I just hope its not bothering him as much as it was. He is already talking about the possiblity of missing Christmas this year with the family and how diffferent that will be. I hope you hear from your son soon, I know what a relief that would be.

I have been keeping myself busy trying not to worry about him, but at this point its almost impossible, Im concerned, he has been down and unsure about his efforts. Ive not seem him like this before. To make matters worse, he hurt his leg and it is causing him alot of pain, however med told him that he would have to wait until the end of May before they could get it x-rayed for a possible fracture.

I'm holding.....its hard cause he sounds so down when he calls......they are all either working or sleeping. Get ready for ORSE is always stressful. Yeah, don't buy that plane ticket just yet for when they get back in....Things ALWAYS change.....I think that is the one thing that is constant in the Navy...its very hard to plan......I am working nonstop in my restaurant....so it keeps me from thinking about him all the time....It was actually almost 80 degrees here today in VT and everyone was kinda freaking out...I almost got on my motorcycle but was thinking that if I got on it, I wouldn't of come back to open the kitchen...haaaaaa...maybe tomorrow.....Hope you are well my friend.....

No, because of the situation ....... they came in for boat repairs and he has to work so I didn't go down......He's gonna call today and hopefully I'll get all the info.......he never got any leave after boot camp or school so the C.O.B promised me he would give him some time off when they got back...of course if you know anything about the Navy , you know it can be chock full of empty promises......so I guess we just wait and see...It was so nice to hear his voice.. Are they letting Jeff off ?

I havnt heard any word yet as to when the boat is going to arrive. All I heard from my sailor was that they would reach port and then return back home soon. I would love to know, I wish to send a surprise so that it will be there when he returns.

Hey Karen, Thank you so much for your encouraging words. Two of my friends are from Howenwald, TN.. Mike and Kim Blosser, They moved up there from Hermitage TN, to take care of Kim's aging parents and the farm. I was up there several years ago and it is a very beautiful place to live. I noticed on Jeffs picture that he has two red strips on his sleeve, what do they represent.... and what do the guys do to earn their fish? Sorry but Im new to all of this

Karen, Nice to hear from you. Just received another email from Sean and I am I am sure your excited about the visit. Its only been since Feb since I last saw Sean, so I cant imagine what it would be like for a whole year. I hope you hear from Jeff soon. Sean is tired, homesick and feels like nothing is going right. He is enduring the first trip and I am trying to support him through email as much as I can. I am looking forward to them being back home.
