I would love to send something, except he got shipped to Ballston Spa a week ago. Go figure. At least when he reports to Newport Rhode Island mid Feb. it's only a 4 hour drive. Thanks so much for offering though.

About me:
I am a Navy Mom. Trying to get used to empty nesting. I am not sure if my husband and I ever will. LOL! Our son left for BC 4-15-08. He is now a Gunners Mate and scheduled to be stationed in Japan. We can see that the Navy is the best decision that Aaron could have made. He is bright young man with a great future and will get to see many places.

We also have a daughter, Jenna who is a teacher. She teaches 5th grade at a Bilingual school and Loves it. It makes it all worth it to see your kids doing what they want to do!!

To round out the family we have 2 weiner dogs at home that run our house. Einstein and Bambina. They are still wondering where the kids went.
I am here to support or represent my:
Child/Stepchild
Stage of (Sailor’s) Navy Career?
Enlisted
When I heard “Navy,” I:
Was concerned or afraid
From my experience with the Navy, the most important thing I learned was:
There is strength in numbers. I felt very alone before I found this site. I try to keep myself informed an up to date as much as I can. I feel I can support Aaron better that way!!
Through this Navy experience, I now believe:
It was positive and maturing. Our relationship has grown stronger.

A year later...

Well it has been a while since I sat down and had a heart to heart with myself...

We are right at a year of service for Aaron. And what a year it has been.

Aaron left the other day for Japan. The months, weeks and days before filled with highs and lows. He has bee in C School training in San Diego since December. Graduation was April 17th, departure to Japan was April 23rd.

The dates get embedded in your mind and then life starts to revolve around before graduation - the small window of time… Continue

Grateful for the mess

I sit among the whirlwind of items strewn all over the room as I type away at my computer. My sailor came home last night from A school. We will have him for a couple of weeks before he heads to C School in San Diego. My office is his old room. Last week I would come in here to check my N4M smiling to myself that soon I would be sharing my surroundings. There was a time a few years ago that I would have been very irritated at the mess around me-today I welcome and embrace it. Some of these items… Continue

The Farmer and the Politicians

Hope I don't offend-I just thought this was funny!!

A busload of politicians were driving down a country road when all of a sudden, the bus ran off the road and crashed into a tree in an old farmer's field.

The old farmer, after seeing what had happened, went over to investigate.

He then proceeded to dig a hole to bury the politicians.

A few days later the local sheriff came out, saw the crashed bus, and asked the old farmer where all the politicians had gone.

The old farmer sai… Continue

Surprise-Surprise!!

My son came home for the long labor day weekend and surprised us!! It was the best surprise ever!! He is currently in A school and was trying hard to get leave for the long weekend. He called me @ 2 pm his time at work the Thursday before. He was really down and he told me that he was trying to get leave and it didn't go through. I could tell he was really frustrated. He said he jumped through all the hoops they asked and it always took a long time for everything and everyone was telling him dif… Continue

Just an idea...

When I was talking to Aaron yesterday he said that the letters he had gotten soo far were really great. We have friends that have asked for his address--

--so I went to Staples and bought some 2x4 labels. Printed them all with Aaron's address and have mailed them to our friends and family that have asked. For his going away party we had a tropical shower curtain hung up that we tried to get most of the people pictured in front of it with Aaron. For those that I have the picture of I am enclosin… Continue

Hi Kathy,

Thanks for the welcome. My daughter Sarah enlisted here in Longmont. I can't believe that it's over a year now. She's a QM on the Harry Truman. She didn't like it at first, but now that she's "cranking", she can't wait to get back to her division! She'll be coming home on leave next month and I am soooo looking forward to seeing her!

Thanks for the welcome. I'm so glad that to find someone whose son is on the Fitz. How long has your son been in Japan and how is the adjustment? My son can't wait to get there and is so excited about everything. Please let me know if there is anything I should be doing to help him or if he needs anything that I can get for him.

Aaron is going to have life long experiences in Japan and he will love his time there. Our Nick flew back to C school last night, took leave for the weekend -- it was my Mom's Day gift. So nice to have both of our kids home ...even if for a few days. He should know something about his orders in June and will graduate in mid August...let the adventures begin!

Kathy, wanted to stop by and say hello and realized I missed your post about Aaron heading to japan! How are you doing? Are you hearing from him okay? I know it's very far away but I bet he is loving it. What ship did he get assigned to? Did you know we used to live in Yokosuka and LOVEd it = would go back in a heartbeat. Our Nick was actually born there and was hoping for orders to JN as well but it's sounding like that will not happen for him. He is STILL in C school (we PIRed 4.25.08) and will probably be done mid August. He will be going to a new(er) destroyer and none of them are stationed in japan as of yet. So it is sounding like Norfolk or San Diego for his first ship. Deighted to say that he does get to take leave this weekend and will be flying in on Thursday just for the weekend - it will be so nice to see him - it's been five months.

Hiya Sweetie . . . Life's been BUSY:)! I'm glad you've 'connected' with him . . . that's great:)!
I'm doing very well . . . just got home from the DEP meeting - met a few new moms (some didn't know anything about this site!) and talked, talked, talked - LOL:)!
I've been hearing from Bryan somewhat regularly (1 - 4 times a week . . . usually more 1 time than 4 - LOL!) via e-mail - I 'suspended' his phone line so we wouldn't get socked with huge international bills . . .
I'm working 18-25 hours a week (which is a good number) and trying to keep up with the walking training so I'll be ready for the 3-Day Walk in September:)!
How are YOU? Is Aaron getting settled in?
GIANT HUGS:)!

I just got off Skype with Danielle - she was sitting in McD's using the internet :) She did go to a Japanese restaurant last night with the sailor and his wife that met her at Yokosuka when she arrived. Have you heard anymore from Aaron. Guess Danielle is in temp. quarters for a few days -she is ready for her own room so she can start unpacking.

Got my sailor off - how about you? Last I spoke with her she had a few hours in Chicago, then a 6,283 mile flight to Narita International Airport - I'm still smiling - how about you? They are going to have a great time!

I just sent you Danielle's info - she was joking meeting Aaron in Narita...."Hello, I guess our moms have already met...." I told her get used to it, as long as N4M's will be around, I will be doing this!
