Profile Information

About me:
I am the mother of 8 kids. I've got to quit saying kids though. My oldest is 32, then I have an 24 yr old, the a 22 yr ol ,a21 yr old , a20 yr old,. a19 yr old (He's the one in the Navy)and a 15 yr old.. I don't normally tell people this, but 7 of them are adopted.I've always been a stay at home home mom, who could afford a babysitter for that brood! They all came through the special needs adoption program. My "sailor" came to us at 2 yrs of age. He had already been in 8 different foster homes.I have 5 girls & 3 boys.I love each and everyone of them as though I had birthed them myself. My husband and I have been married going on 36 yrs.
I am here to support or represent my:
Cody James Dohoney or EMFA Dohoney
Stage of (Sailor’s) Navy Career?
Enlisted, Overseas
When I heard “Navy,” I:
Was concerned or afraid, Needed to learn more about it
From my experience with the Navy, the most important thing I learned was:
If your child really wants to be in the armed services, you won't be able to stop him/her. As soon as they turn 18, they will sign up without your permission, and you'll have to deal with it one way or the other. I suggest, going into another room and crying your eyes out, then come back in and talk to him/her as an adult. They signed up, you didn't, and evetually you'll have to accept it, IF you want to keep a cllose reltionship with you your child.
Through this Navy experience, I now believe:
Our relationship has grown stronger, This was a maturing experience, The Navy has a lot to offer

Hi Kim, I saw your post and that your son is stationed in Japan. Are you aware of the program called Skype - it is a free download. You can talk to and SEE your sailor on the computer. The only needed equipment is a mini camera and speaker - less than $20 at Radio Shack. It has been wonderful for comunicating with my son in England. You can also sign up for the phone service they have - computer to phone is about 2 cents a minute! Take Care and Best Wishes! ~ Vikki

Hi Kim, I seen that your son is an electrician on the USS Blue Ridge so I wanted to invite you to join us at AECF group on this site. It is for ETs and FC families. Just go to groups and enter AECF.

We used to live in Yokosuka and the Blue Ridge was stationed there at the time. That was back in the day that my hubby was on the USS Reeves, our son was born in Japan and now he is a Sailor as well and currently is in C school as an FC - he's hoping for orders to Japan.

HI KIM:) I've been having problems with my page lately and have accidently erased some of my comments lol. My last comment to you has vanished lol.

I am very sorry that you had such a negative experience in the chat room the other day. Unfortunately thats bound to happen once in a while when dealing with such a large group of people. Just about everyone that i've spoken to about this has had at least 1 negative experience. On the first day of chatting and as i entered the chat room, someone decided to disrupt the nice flow of conversation by saying some really nasty things. Some of us asked that everyone ignore the person but some peope chose to argue with the person. Needless to say things got out of control and i left after saying goodbye and almost didnt come back. I totally understand how you felt!!!

I joined Navy For Moms after helping my best firends daughter whose husband, a 25 year old soldier in the Arrmy, was involved in a bombing in Iraq. While driving an officer to her destination, Don drove over an IED which exploded under the passenger seat of his vehicle killing the officer instantly and blowing Don out of the drivers side window on fire. He was burned over 83% of his body. For the rest of the story please go to my page if you have a few minutes lol!

I spent months at the Fort Sam Houston Army Base & at the Brooks Army Medical Center where Don ended up after the incident in Iraq. Day in and day out i saw soldiers from 19 to mid 20s (my sailor son Eric is 25) with severe wounds, burns and missing limbs and met with families of the wounded.

Shortly after i came home to New York fromTexas, i started to feel depressed and needed something to help me deal with the fear that my sailor son would be killed while serving his country and thats how i found Navy For Moms. What happened to my friend SPC Don Woodard changed my life as well in many ways and joining Navy For Moms helped me deal with some of those things. Please give it a chance to work as everyone wants to be there for you believe me and i'm one of them;)
