We would've loved having Rob for the holidays, I'm sure you would do the same for Zach. but you must be very proud of him that he's chosen to stay and study for comps. Zach says that Rob is doing fine, and really holding his own. I think that school is just moving at such a quick pace, there's no time for these guys to breathe! I haven't spoken with Zach in about a week, but he sent me a picture of himself on Halloween. Looked like they had a good time! Hope all is well with your family, and talk to you soon.

Zach tells me that it's been getting harder, and alot of the guys averages are going down, BUT he says Rob's average has been holding the same, so Zach has pointed out to Rob that he's actually doing better than alot of the other guys now, since he's been able to keep his average the same, and not go down like so many of the other guys.

I know Zach had invited Rob to our house for the holidays, figuring they'd only be away from base for a few days, but he said Rob decided he really needed to stay there and study. I think Zach is still planning on coming home, but just for a very quick trip, maybe 3 days at most. I will definitely cherish every second of it. My daughter's Marine boyfriend will also be visiting, and I was joking that I would put a sign saying "barracks" on Zach's bedroom door, where I'd have all the guys sleep! :)

Hey Krista, I live in Kent. We are neighbors! How soon is your son done with power school? My son will be coming back on Friday for 10 days. First time back since boot camp. We are very excited, but he will probably spend all his time with his friends, ha ha.
Nice to hear from you! --Lynda

Yeah, Winston was worried about the test yesterday. That's why he headed back to GC early instead of staying for church. He wanted to study for the test. I'll have to ask him how he did.

We're moving to the north end of the county. It's about 20-25 minutes from here, but the house is cheaper, has more room, a full basement, acreage, lake view, AND NO SUB-DIVISION!!!

Hey Krista! You're right, it has been a long time. It's been pretty crazy.
After being laid off from work in June, I returned to the same job in August. Only to be laid off again the end of September with a "we'll probably need you back in December or January." Well, screw that! I found a new and better job. I start next week.
My mom passed away on September 4th. It was hard to lose her, but she's much, much better now. Her vascular dementia had gotten so bad that she didn't even recognize pictures of herself anymore. She caught a cold, and with her decreased immune system, it turned into pneumonia within 12-hours. They could have put her on massive antibiotics and a ventalator, but she had a DNR. So we kept her as comfortable as possible and let her slip away. As my sister put it, "She's in heaven now, dancing with Dad."
Winston's older brother asked his girlfriend to marry him last week and, of course, she said yes. So now we're in the wedding planning mode. On Friday, Paul & I are having dinner with the the happy couple and her parents to finalize a date and come up with a high level concept of what the bride & groom want, then modify it to what the parents can afford!
Winston's sister started college in August. She's staying on campus, in the dorms, and has found a really nice boyfriend. He's an Army ROTC cadet, from a retired-military family. But about 3 weeks ago, Haley was diagnosed with mono. Apparently mono has a 6-8 week incubation period, so the doctor thinks she actually was exposed to it before she ever left for college. She's doing better, but just gets really tired very quickly. So we've told her to quit her part-time job so she can get more rest. That means that we have to support her with the spending money that she normally earns herself. It'll all work out.
Winston is doing fine in school. He is having a bit of a challenge with one of his class, it's physics, I think. But he's hanging in there. He comes home every 3rd or 4th weekend. He was just here this past weekend and told me that he probably won't be back home until Thanksgiving. I was hoping that he could be here the weekend before T'giving, too. We're moving and we sure could use his strong back. But the Navy comes first and he needs to keep studying.
We'll definitely be in GC for graduation in January. Winston's already talking about getting an apartment after graduation. It seems that there's not enough dorm room for those in the 3rd 6-months, so they're expected to get their own places. They'll be receiving housing allowances for it, of course, and all the apartment complexes around there know that they need 6-month leases. Usually 3 or 4 of them go together and get a place. I just hate the idea of him accumulating apartment "stuff" and then getting transferred to who-knows-where. I'm not sure if the Navy will pay for the moving expenses at their ranks.
OK, so I've been way, WAY too long winded. Sorry about that. We'll have to coordinate it so we make sure we see each other in January.
Happy Halloween!

Glad to hear that he's doing well. Zach talked to his dad the other day, but I wasn't home. Hopefully I'll talk to him tonight. Things seem to be going well for them. Can you believe that it's a year ago tomorrow that they started bootcamp? wow, the time really has flown, and they are SO much better off for having joined. I'm so proud of them!

If your sailor is going on a different cell phone plan, legal department at GC may help him out of his old plan due to poor reception and coverage. Of course, it won't work if you are all trying to stay on same plan for minutes, etc. Just a thought as my sailor got out of his old contract.

Whenever I send Zach treats, he "complains" that I'll make him fat. I always tell him those treats are meant to be shared!! I just sent him a Halloween package yesterday which included home-made chocolate covered pretzels, one of our favorites, so I really hope he shares! I don't see why Rob can't borrow Zach's phone...he's still on our plan and there are tons of minutes, especially after 8 or 9 at night. I don't think we've ever gone over, so Rob should feel free to borrow the phone. That's so nice that his grandparents will come to graduation as well. My folks will be coming also, but I don't know if Jay's mom will make it. We were thinking if she flew down, we could get her at the airport, but I really don't think the 15 hour drive would work very well for her. We'll see...We are still planning on going for thanksgiving tho', and I'm really looking forward to it. Zach said he'll be inviting 4 or 5 guys to dinner. I'm sure we'll have fun.
Unfortunately, Emma's still not happy at college. She plans to come home at the end of the semester and go to the local community college until she figures out where she'd like to go. I think she will be a lot happier commuting from home for a while. We were kind of enjoying our "empty nest", but at least we will have a built in dog-sitter when we want to get away! : )
Glad to hear Rob did well on the last test, especially with such a high failure rate. Zach said his hardest exams are his cross-rate exams, but they're behind him for now, at least until comps.
Can you believe that next week, they will have been in the Navy for a full year? Wow, the time really has flown. Remember how long boot camp seemed??? Anyway, take care, enjoy your visit with your daughter.
