Hey Y'all!

We did this as well and had a wonderful girl spend most of the weekend with us. My sailor is a son and there wasn't anything romantic about it; they were just on the same ship and got along. I have to say that we were much better off for the exper...

My son has been doing short cruises thus far and I was shocked when I saw him on Facebook one day. I just knew it wouldn't be allowed, but I was wrong. It made me feel better to be able to reach out to him. I truly hope this continues to be allowe...

Thank you all for the helpful information. My son is doing short cruises now and will go on a 'real' cruise sometime after the new year. We had thought about visiting him around Thanksgiving but now I'm wondering if we should wait to see him off. ...

As with anything in life, you will get as much out of the military as you put in. I was an Air Force wife and was able to travel and see things I would have never had the opportunity to otherwise. My husband basically had a 9 to 5 job. I loved it ...

When I heard “Navy,” I:
Was proud and encouraged it
From my experience with the Navy, the most important thing I learned was:
I'm still new, so I'm still learning: learning when to keep my mouth shut and when to speak up; learning to depend more on God and less on myself to keep my son safe; learning to cry and smile at the same time; learning to live with my heart on the other side of the country; learning to text; learning to take one day at a time.
Through this Navy experience, I now believe:
It was positive and maturing. Our relationship has grown stronger.

Angel Mothers at Work Among the U.S. Navy

I wish I could respond to each of you wonderful Navy moms personally. As most of you know, my son became seriously ill on Monday, January 6. He's in California and I'm in Tennessee. After speaking with the emergency room doctor, I was frantic. Should I stay here, should I go? The doctor's, of course, told me to stay. They weren't sure if they would do surgery yet and there was no need for me to come. Yet my son, with a tube down his throat, was telling me he was scared. This is a person who nContinue

Hey Laura, tell Spencer to ask about "activities" buses for tours and the like. When Zak was in "A" school at the Naval War College in Rhode Island the Navy provided them with transportation and a room, I believe, to go to some "dome" outside Boston for a concert. It was too far to drive both ways so his dad and I were happy they were offered a room. Another weekend they caught a bus to Boston and "saw the sights!" In San Francisco they set up trips to the Zoo and I think ball games and the beaches. In Korea he signed up for a "hiking trip" up a mountain. Better than sitting in the bar. He might have to do a little digging, but I think there are things available. Now, not every guy is going to think the Zoo is worth the trip, but there are museums, etc.,. I tell Zak, "try something new son, you never know, you might like baseball... :)))))))) He's such a defensive lineman, I tease him about baseball. He actually arranged for the three of us to see a game in SFO when we were there for graduation. Beautiful stadium, but I felt so bad for the team :( they couldn't rub two nickles together for a run, or even a "good" inning :)

Laura I have been there with my older son He went into the Marines. He was one of these that stay in games on the computer. the would work out a little but not much. They told him if he would go in ther would put in A unit to get him in shape. He went on. He was only there about 2 weeks he got sick. with pneumonia Stay in the hospital for over a week. Then they put hin in a unit to recoupe. then he had to start all over again. he was there for 6 mo. The Marines boot camp is 3 mo. But he made it. when we got there. He had gone from a 38 to 27 paints size When he was school he would tell me he was doing o.k. I would be at the school one of his teachers would come to me and say he had not done something, At his grad. I was look for him they all look the same. We were so for away,, they were all slim I was afraid he did not make it. It took me a few min. to find him, his back was to me I was going to run to him . but I was afraid it might not be him, so I called out his Name he trun around . That was a good felling. My son that is going in to the Navy, does more than Ryan I know he will be o.k. If he get in. He said he can do the set up and push up his running is only off a little about a min and a half. he has five weeks untill he will go. I think this one will do better. today he help sone one put a roof on his house .

Hey Laura! I love honey, yum! A new pup? Oh boy.....a new child you mean...hehe. Yes our ferrets are awesome little creatures. It is pretty easy to get them not to bite, a tap on the nose and a firm, "No bite!" Two days to stop biting, that was cool. They are little bundles of wiggly energy!

How is Spencer doing? Well I hope! Take care, Laura!

I'm coming through Smyrna about the 26 or 27 of this month. I'm thinking of going to Chattanuga (sp) and meeting up with Mary from Marietta, GA. How far are you from Chattanuga and would be possible? I thinking of spending the night there and then my next stop is High Point, NC and then Norfolk.

I can hardly wait to see Matt. He emailed me early this a.m. - he can't wait to get home. I'm meeting another Navy Mom in Norfolk, well maybe more than one! I thought this trip was for Matt but I'm sure changing that!

I think of you often also......and Safford. How's everything going? Let me know if I can do anything....

I can't believe there's only 3 kids in Spencer's class. Ask him the other's names, I think I know one of them.
