When my father passed away I was given the honor of reciting the 13 folds of the flags. Two Honor guards stood behind me and folded the flag as I recited the meaning of each fold. Every Veteran's Day, my father would take us to a parade. When I was little, the parade meant candy, floats, and a day off from school. We would always go to the V.F.W., and drink hot chocolate and eat cookies while my dad helped get things set up for the parade.Many Old timers, with uniforms of long ago, flags on their lapels and medals on their chest sat among us Some in wheel chairs, some with canes and walkers, some trying to stand up straight. Ok, here's the story. A new mom came on the site a few days ago, I welcomed her and she went on to tell me that her son and family had a falling out before he left for boot camp. She had no idea what his address was or who his recruiter was and no mail or phone calls from him. Needless to say she was heart broken. This really played hard on me.
