Vernita, My sailor is doing well....... he was home for a few weeks, he has shore duty in Hawaii at Camp Smith.
Hope everyone else is doing good and a Happy Thanksgiving to all.
Thanks for all the responses to my question, but I have one more....are you suppose to call the Red Cross even if the person you need to get ahold of is not on a ship and we know how to contact him?
Just a question, so if there is a death in the family, is the best way for this to be handled through the Red Cross rather then the person themselve or their command?
Another sad day for me today....... my son left to go back to HI after a 14 day trip home. I just left him at the airport. These "goodbyes" are tough each time.

Navymom2009, I really doubt that your son was allowed to have his cell phone. Right when they get to BC, they have to put all their belongings in a Box that will then be sent home. If he didnt call you the night he arrived, you probably wont here ...

- yes the goodbys are hard but it amazes me that our sons know how to get around the airports and how to contact someone when they need help at the airports.
also you can contact flight track to see how the plane is doing up in the air.
it is so cool to see it on the screen.

If I were you I'd stay at the Navy Lodge as it will be closer to get to Fort Smith & you won't have to worry about paying a parking fee to stay at one of the dowtown hotels. If you plan on going in November, have your son make reservations at the Navy Lodge now as they book months in advance. Sometimes there are cars for sale on the military bases from people who are PCS'ing back to the mainland & don't want to be bothered transporting their car. So have him look into that prior to going out & looking. Another thing, stay away from car lots that are located near the base.

- I've heard of Camp Smith but really don't know anything about it. I just looked it up online & the site says it's near Aiea which is near Pearl Harbor & Pearl City. I'll call Ashley later & ask her if she knows anything about it.
