Hey Krista! I just talked to Winston. He said the test was really hard but didn't live up to the "Widowmaker" moniker. He's on his way home now for the long weekend. They hadn't released the grades before he left. So we wait & see. Everyone have a...

Hello Ladies! My son, Winston, is an ET in 0906-05 with Jeanne's Zach. They actually went through BC together, too. When I read these posts, I realize how blessed I am to live so close to GC. We live in northeast Georgia, about a 4 1/2 hour drive ...

Stage of (Sailor’s) Navy Career?

When I heard “Navy,” I:
Needed to learn more about it
From my experience with the Navy, the most important thing I learned was:
He'll be in school for 18-24 months before he deploys. He may not be at home, but at least he'll be closer than the middle east!
Through this Navy experience, I now believe:
It was positive and maturing. Our relationship has grown stronger.

Hi Lin,
Good to hear from you. I am glad all your kids are doing well, and so sorry to hear about your mom. I like your sister's way of looking at it, it's a nice image to keep in mind. How nice that you guys live close enough to see Winston so often! Oh well, at least we speak with Zach once or twice a week, so I'm not complaining! We are going to be at the graduation, for sure. Zach's grandparents will be coming with us, and I'm not sure yet about Jay's mom...we'll see. We are also going down at Thanksgiving. We've reserved one of the villas, and I intend to cook thanksgiving dinner for Zach and any "orphan" sailors he brings along with him. He's telling me there'll be 5 or 6 other guys, Rob amonst them I'm sure. My girls will be staying home here with family. They're being good about us "abandoning" them this year, since they remember that Zach spent last Thanksgiving in bootcamp, they don't mind that we're going down and making sure the boys have a home-cooked meal. It's just too bad that they can't come with us, but they're both busy with school. Emma unfortunately is not adjusting well to being away at college. She's doing fine in her classes, but just has not connected with anything/anyone there, and is planning to move home at the end of the semester. She'll go to the local community college until she figures out what's next. Megan is dating a very nice young man, a Lt. in the Marines. He's an officer recruiter locally right now, but will be leaving in May for Quantico for specialty training in Intelligence. Meg graduates with her master's degree a week before he leaves, and I know they're plannig to move back east together...hmm..sure hope there's an engagement by then! :) Boy, I thought life was supposed to be less complicated as the kids grew up, but it's been anything but!
Zach's been doing well with classes. He's stressed, and I'm sure the relentless learning is getting to him, but he's holding his own, and making sure he finds time to de-stress. he told me he just bought himself some soccer cleats so he can play more seriously, and he found a bar a little ways away from base that has a pool league that he plans on joining. He's hoping for NY for prototype, so I'm sure that'll be nuts trying to find a place to live long-distance, but apparently they all manage, so I'm sure he will too.
Good luck on your move to your new place. Sounds wonderful!

Lin, I live in Athens. We have been to GC several times to see Jason, and he's been home a few times, too. In fact, he's on his way home right now! It's nice that he's not too far away.

My daughter went to Young Harris and loved it. She would have stayed if it had been a four-year school. Instead, she came back and finished at UGA. I will ask my son, Jason, if he knows Spencer.

Lin, glad to hear from someone from GA. My son left for boot camp 11/18-08. He just started power school on June 15. I am so proud of him. He is working really hard and doing well. You said you other son goes to UGA. Well, I work at the university at the Health Center and the Counseling and Psychiatric Services department. UGA is a great place to go to school. Where will he be going to seminary? Does he know yet? I have a young friend who is in her last year in seminary at Vanderbilt. My daughter teaches 8th grade science in Jackson County. She just finished her Master's and is now working on her Specialist Degree. I know you are as proud of all your children as I am of mine. Let me hear from you again. Judi
