Lisa, I meant to tell you, the plate came from navystuff.com. There is also one on the internet that is absolutely beautiful but it's close to $50. When I can afford it I'm getting it. It's plated pewter with some paint on it. Wonderful though. I'll try to find the link to it and let you know.

Lisa! Oh that's such wonderful news! I am so glad Chris has been doing so well! I know that must have been so very hard for you and him both but look where the hard work got him!!!! Lisa he is absolutly breathtaling in his uniform! I remember in one of your comments to me after PIR that you wished he had chosen to do something more "productive" with the Navy. I cannot imagine not being proud as everything for him to be doing what he is doing now!

I do want to stay in contact as the Navy has a way of placing people where they don't expect to be placed. On Chris list of openings was DC and he wanted it and was told ok. His instructors started "grooming" him for a position in DC. Last week he was told that he has new orders. He will still grad C school on the 29th then have a little more than two weeks at home, and now he leaves for S. Korea on the 23rd of June. He was disappointed and angry but he will of course go where they need him. He has even decided it won't all be bad. Another guy is going with him and even though they will be a different bases they are planning to get together every now and then. The two of them have decided that as long as they are in "that neck of the woods" they will try to make a trip to Japan during leave time. He will return next year. He hopes then there will be a job open in DC. The Navy has already offered to guarantee his choice of coast when he returns. He's going to try to up that to get a guarantee of the DC area. He would have been housed just down the street from your Chris! :(
If he can get to Dc next year though I would love for the two Chrises to hook up. My Chris is going to be so jealous when I tell him what your Chris is doing now. Actually, I"M jealous! lol...
So you do feel better about it now? What a better way to serve your country than to serve on honor guards. I hope you can understand what it meant to me and my family when my Dad was buried two years ago with Military Honors. Lisa I think he is doing one of the greatest things he can do in his entire life. Please tell him there is a mom out here who is very proud of him and wants to thank him for his service.
Please keep in touch and take care.
Navy Hugs,
Mary

Lisa, It's been a very long time since I've heard from you. How has your Chris been doing? He looks really nice in his CG uniform! Is he still in the DC area? My Chris is going to DC in a couple of months. He will finish his second round of school in 5 weeks, come home for 2 weeks and then go to DC. If your Chris is still in the area maybe he and my Chris could hook up sometime. We are not sure yet which side of the river Chris will be working on or living at. When I find out I can let you know.
Please let me know how your son is doing. I often wonder about him. How are you now? I know before you had reservations about his job. My son would have thought it an awesome job but no one told him how to enlist for it.
I hope to hear from you. Take care.

Lisa have you heard from your Chris lately? I hope the guard training is going well for him. My Chris is doing alright I hope. He finally got to start classes last week and he has phased up so I'm taking his car to VA this weekend. I don't get to hear from him so often now. He has to return to the school building at night to study. H says the classes are really hard, there is very little instruction and he did not do as well on his first test as he would have liked. Four people actually failed the first test. I suppose by the new base rule that puts those on academic hold until the next class starts.
If your Chris remains in the DC area for a while please let me know as Chris will be in the Norfolk area for at least 5 months (provided he continues to pass) and will likely travel to DC a couple of times.
Have a wonderful day and god bless you and Chris both.

Hi Lisa! How have you been this past week and a half? Did Chris get a chance to call after he got to DC? I know you must be proud of him.
I don't suppose he was far enough along in training to do any of the guards for the Innaguration? I tried to find Navy folks in the guards. Most of what I saw were of course Marines. Who knows? Maybe Super Bowl? Maybe the first Nationals game this season? Ya gotta be proud anyway! It's all practise and more practise to get that precise timing and march. Boy, they always look good! Keep me posted. My Chris did not get to start class this week either. :( Maybe next week there will be enough guys to begin.
I look forward to hearing from you soon with word on your Chris!

Hi Lisa,
I know it's been a while. I hope all is going well with you and your family. I assume boot camp is over, and Chris has started a new assignment. Did you enjoy the ceremony, and your time in Chicago? Although we were there such a short time, I felt that it is a city I would like to see more of sometime. So, did your son accept the position in Washington? I certainly share your reservations, as far as feeling that classes leading to something more is preferable, but at this point I think I would be happy just to have him in this country, and Washington is always a really interesting and exciting place to be, and right now even more so. It could be a really exciting learning experience for Chris, also. D.C. really is "the place to be" right now. As for my son, Graham, he is in Panama City at dive school right now. Assuming he gets through that, he will go to Elgin Air Force base, which is where they do the rest of the EOD schooling. EOD, by the way, stand for Explosive Ordinance Disposal. I don't let him tell me too much about what he could possibly end up doing, but he is excited about it. He has always been one of those kids that is big into risk-taking, so now at least it will be channeled, hopefully, into a more positive and helpful direction. I hope to hear from you soon.

Wow Lisa, Chris would give up his calls for 8 more weeks to be on Ceremonial Color Guard! He did color guards in ROTC all four years and was Ceremonial Color Guard Commander his jr year and then Drill team Color Guard and Ceremonial Commander his Sr. year until he became Cadet Company Commander. He was even chosen to do an Honor Guard once. He loves doing the guards. Is Chris going to carry rifles or flags? Does he know how many the guard will consist of?
Chris always liked the look of the 5 man guard but it was complicated for most of the students so they usually did a four man guard. They always looked good. It was the same 4 or 5 for three years and they had perfect timing. You think you were proud the day they graduated? Ha! Just wait until you see him perform a color guard! Your heart will be right behind your eyes! (Unless it's still stuck in your throat) It is awsome!
I asked Chris why he had not done that and he said he did not know that he was supposed to talk about that with his recruiter (he had a really sorry recruiter). His recruiter even knew his background and interest but did not tell him he needed to say something before bc. :(
I believe he is happy though. He did not call tonight so I texted him a while ago. He texted right back so I know he is up doing something but he just kept answering with "k", "k"... He must be having enough fun that I was bothering him so I told him to call Saturday after he does his 24 hour duty tomorrow. He said, (what else?) "k". The end of conversation. LOL
Your Chris will do well and once he is through training he will be treated very well. He will be considered "cream of the crop". Congratulations Lisa and Chris! Please keep me informed on how he is doing and what he is doing. I wanna see his face on TV at ball games or visit the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and see him doing a Changing of the Guard. Post the events!!!
Have a wonderful evening, Lisa. When you hear from Chris tell him a big congratulations!

Hi Lisa, Have you heard from Chris this week? My Chris has his cell phone and you'd think he had invented it! He calls two or three times a day (I guess just because he can). He is working during the day around the base but by mid afternoon he is pretty much doing what he wants. He is excited to get classes going although he says they may not have enough students to start next week either. He is getting paid and learning his way around and having some fun so what does he care? Keep me posted. How are you doing during this transition?
