We stayed at the Navy Lodge for PIR and were very pleased with the location and accommodations. Jason graduated on Friday, 3/13/09, and had liberty for the weekend. We were able to extend our stay an extra day to do some sightseeing with him. We w...

My son took his phone with him to Pensacola. He graduated 12/24 and came home for 1.5 weeks. Back to Pensacola on 1/4/09. I have been in touch with him almost every day. Unfortunately the frustration is that (the AM;s at least) are "on hold". They...

We bought Philip a lap top when he first got there and he had to buy a wireless card. He said they have WIFI in certain areas, but to use it in his own room he needed a card. Hope that helps...

We stayed at the Red Carpet Inn when my son graduated. It is literally four lights away from the Naval Base. It is also affordable. We found that by going through Hertz and saying that we were there for the PIR it was cheaper than any other car re...

Graduation.....

We just got back from Graduation and it was so beautiful. Seeing my son for the first time in two months was emotional. It was snowing and freezing everyday, but who noticed we were having too much fun just seeing how much he is grown up and matured. He is now going to Pensacola Florida for "A" school. The weather there at least is nice:) The Graduation was on time and it was the perfect opportunity to take lots of pictures and video as well as cry. I am glad that we got to experience this with… Continue

Lori-thanks for responding to my question about the back up for aircrew..wow..5 months!! Part of the reason I was asking is because chris just graduated 1/23..he didn't have his orders yet and had no idea when he'd be getting down there. He is really worried that with the back up they will put him on hold up in GL instead letting him be on hold in P-cola. How long was Philip in GL after PIR before they went ahead and sent him to P-cola? I can't believe they have allowed it to get that backed up. Chris doesn't mind being on hold so much as not being in P-cola. While he is still in GL he doesn't get the priveleges afforded to the graduates even on hold. What on earth do they do for 5 months while they are waiting? Is there a way for them to stay in shape so they are ready for Aircrew school? Do they give them some kind of work or something so that they aren't bored to death? LOL any help would really be appreciated. Unfortunately since he is still in GL I'm in the dark as much as I was during BC as he still isn't able to make calls and such. UGGH!

oh...I see that Joyce gave a great idea down below :) My kid stuffed a short note in his pants pocket that came home, he also did a couple of delayed text messages to my phone. It was precious.

Hi there . . . glad you might make it to the potluck in January:)!
I've been thinking of you . . . I'm assuming your 'youngest' has arrived? Hope all is well:)!

See if your son would be willing to write you a letter while on the plane to Great Lakes - pre-addressed stamped envelope that he can drop in the mail at the airport? Then you wouldn't have to wait that lllloooooooonnnnnnng couple of weeks to hear from him . . .
Do your best to put on a 'happy' face for him to remember and feel free to come and cry on the shoulders of NFM's . . . GIANT HUGS to you:)!

My son leaves to boot camp tomorrow and I am really sad. How do you get through the crying and let them know how proud you are of them? It is my first time away from my son and with the holidays coming I would like to hear how you get through the tears. Thanks for listening!
