Talked to Katie too. She was just home for 12 days and we had a great time. She made it for her youngest brother's high school graduation which really pleased him. She got to see her newest nephew from her oldest brother and wife. We also found out…

Well Essex Moms, Today is Mother's day in Japan. I hope everyone hears from their Sailor. It's hard when they are so far away, and yet they are always as close as our hearts. God Bless and Happy Mother's Day.

Thank you Tina. Very kind words, and they fit all our friends here.

Hi-I wrote you back in November. There are quite a few Navy families in Wyoming. Tara is in Japan-on USS Cowpens. Her job is SK-storekeeper. How is Katie doing? Tara loves Japan. Please keep in touch-Lucia from Gillette

Katie e-mailed that they will be flying her out to meet the ship Wednesday. Probably via helicopter??

Katie is a DCFA -Damage Control. My Katie was wondering if any of the Navy4 Moms had daughters on her ship--and any others in her rate. It would have been nice if her 'sponsor' was a female, but maybe all will work out. Of course, I know the Essex is in the Philippines and she (hopefully) is at the base by now. It would be great if our daughters met. Thanks.

Lorraine, How is your daughter Katie doing? My Katie just left Chicago on Saturday for Japan and the USS Essex. Haven't heard yet if she arrived in Sasebo yet.

I looked up Torrington...yep, and Wyoming is a wide state. But we're still neighbors in the "western" sense. :-)

Lorraine, I'm truly in awe of your families' accomplishments you have quite the lineage and its an honor . I'm proud of all of our kid who have made the committments they have. I get teary-eyed when I read some of the stories here. Nina is also "born again" and she said the Navy is her calling. She will be in Japan soon and serving with a fleet that does a lot of humanitarian work. Thanks for responding. I hope to read more from you soon.

I love your blog about our girls being different - and the road they chose to travel being different from those of many of the girls they went to school with - but I do differ on one thing - you said they paths our girls chose may not necessarily be better - But I do think it is better!! Maybe I'm just an old, but proud military wife but when our daughter decided to join, we talked and talked and talked to our daughter before she signed on the dotted line - and made sure she understood that she would belong to an organization that stands for peace, liberty and freedom for her fellow Americans, many of whom could never do what she is doing, many of whom would never fully appreciate the sacrifices my little girl is making not just for me and my family but for ALL FOR THOSE people she will never know and they'll never know her. We instilled pride in our daughter to hold her head high, to wear her uniform with pride and to be a proud, contributing member to a country she loves. So our daughters are different, they are better than many and I'm proud of each and every one of them, whether they make this a career or do their primary enlistment and get out. They are truly a part of an organization that has made it safe for us to just be.

Hey, one day our Katie's may serve together. I know that she may be on a carrier. Katie has been very positive about her experience at boot camp so far. Her div won the captain's cup on Saturday, so she was even more excited to be able to call, especially after just calling on Thanksgiving. Battlestations will start this evening, and she had her final test today. Katie already passed her PT tests. I'm glad to hear that your daughter is positive and I will encourage my daughter to push herself as well. And Always to keep the faith.
