I loved the box of dirty clothes I received, Even though he's belongs to the Navy now, I'm still the Mom. (even so, I had to cut my Michigan Avenue shopping trip short because the Navy said he had to be back by 6pm). But that would be my suggestion,…

Welcome aboard!!

We are so glad that you are here! This is a great place to meet others that know exactly how you feel!
We have something for everyone here groups from boot camp moms to overseas moms and moms that like to scrap book. We have meet and greets to events that the moms set up to meet each other and have dinner or an outing. There are groups to help you with each and every step of this wonderful adventure that our children have chosen called the US Navy.

Please tell us about your sailor and what they have chosen to do in the navy and ohh yeah we LOVE pictures of everyone !!

Please let me know if you have any questions I can help you with.

Also, there's a group called "Alaska Moms" who might be especially helpful. Doesn't look like it's super active, but you may be able to get it going again!

Welcome aboard! My daughter is in boot camp right now - scheduled to graduate in three weeks. You probably received the 30 second "I'm here" call. Next, you will receive all of his civvie clothes back in a box. That should happen within a week or so (depending on how long it takes to get mail from Great Lakes to Alaska). My daughter arrived at Great Lakes on 1/6 and we received the box on 1/9. Shortly after that, you will receive a form letter from the Navy (ours arrived on 1/15), which gives your son's address at boot camp among lots of other information. There will also be space for a few lines from your son. Finally, you will get a real letter! We got our first letter on 1/22 (they're not allowed to write or mail letters for awhile after they arrive). Shortly thereafter, you will receive the "graduation package" which is just a couple of flyers and a parking pass. We received ours on 1/26. That will have the graduation date on it and will let you know whether or not your son will be "grad and go" - which means you would only have about 90 minutes with him after his Pass in Review before he has to leave for the airport to fly to his A School (do you know where the A school for corpsmen is?). In the meantime, while you're waiting for all of that mail, your son's recruiter should have his address within 72 hours, so you can call the recruiter and find out where you should send him mail. Once you know what division he's in, you can go here:

http://www1.netc.navy.mil/nstc/rtcgl/family/upcominggrad.html

and his graduation date should be there. Make sure you book flights that can be changed just in case anything happens to set him back to a different grad date (illness, etc.).

I hope this was helpful! Please feel free to message me if I can help with anything! Stay strong - it's tough, but this site is very helpful ('cause you know you're not the only one going through it).
